I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and a wonderful Mother' s day. I worked on a couple of projects this weekend since I can't seem to stop. When I bought my chandelier for my breakfast room I wanted some cute shades for it. I looked at some on the Ballard's website, but the ones I wanted were $16 a piece. Take that times six and that was just too much to spend on them. So I resorted to looking on ebay and found some burlap covered shades and got six for $12. That was much better. These were just plain burlap and didn't have the red trim on them so I left them that way until now.
So I went to Hobby Lobby and bought some red bias tape since it was the shade of red I needed.
I put the glue on the band in a zig zag pattern and applied the tape.
Repeated this step for the top and bottom.
Voila, I have shades very similar to the Ballard's ones for a lot less.

and after. I like them with the red much better. It was so easy and only took thirty minutes
to do all six and for very little money.

So for less that twenty dollars I got the look of the Ballard's shades.

Hi Kim, I looked at Ballard shades for my chandelier. At $16.00 each I went elsewhere. Yours look great all dressed up with the new trim. They look really good with your drapes...that I love! I know I have only told you that I love these drapes 100 times.

Your shades look great with the red trim, I agree that looks so much perkier with the red trim. Ballard has so many lovely items but they are just priced out of the ballpark.
But I like to do the same thing, love their item, but find a much less expensive way to do it. I believe you can live well but not spend a fortune to do it, and you just proved it is so!!

Very nice! I love the burlap shades and the red is just perfect in your kitchen! We used that liquid stitch occasionally at work, good stuff but expensive for the amount you get!
Also wanted to let you know that Walmart has really cute market umbrellas this year for $60.00. They seem a little larger to me then standard but not sure. The colors this year are excellent and there is a red you would love, I think they are part of the Better Homes and Gardens line. Thanks for your comments too! :)
