The Reveal and BTB Party 9

Alright I will stop the teasing. I finished the dining room on Sunday and am so pleased at how it turned out. Several of you guessed red, some green, gray, neutral and two said BLACK! No, not black. I wanted lighter and fresher. The problem with the dark yellow was it was just that, too dark or rather too bold! All I did was match the paint above the chair rail with the color below it. That made the painting easy, too by not having to repaint the bottom portion. I believe the color is Swiss Coffee and it is by Behr paint. The can says custom because I gave my can of leftover paint to my daughter when we were painting her house and the new can didn't get the name put on it.
Let's take a look.

Yesterday I showed you how I changed the color in the hutch. So much better.

I kept the ceiling color the same. It is a different yellow than the walls were. This is York Harbor Yellow by Benjamin Moore paints. The ceiling being yellow creates a warm glow in the evening.
That also made a lot less work. I hate painting the ceiling.

I toned down the accessories.

I put my Italian sign back up. I love it against the new color.

This is another red transferware plate that I purchased with my amazon gift card win.

This is the other one.

Hutch doors closed.

I love my drapes with the new color.

simple two tiered stand with fruit for the centerpiece

As you can see I changed the appearance of the chandelier and I will share this in another post.
BTW this is not brass.

So glad I can use my favorite basket again.

View from the kitchen with the morning sun coming in.

This is the warm color the room takes on in the afternoon.

The view from the foyer. I love this fresh new lack of color. Now the wood floors and furniture look better against the neutral color. Now when I stand in this room I say ahhhhh.

Thanks so much for taking a look. Now I want to see what you have to share tonight.
This party is for any make overs and you do not have to have the before shot.

Just remember to link your post URL and not your whole blog.
PLEASE add a link in your post that is easily found to my blog so others can find the party and join in if they like.
I hope you will become a follower if you are new here. Take some time to mingle with the other participants. This is a great way to help your blog to grow.

Now let's party!

Hi Kimmie! Oh, your new wall color looks beautiful! I guessed red and I'm so glad it wasn't red. Your room looks very Italian to me now. I love your drapes - that fabric is gorgeous and looks like you made the drapes to match the wall.
Do you think I could join your party with my Christmas balls? I just may do it! :) You know I'm a mess.

Kim, it looks gorgeous! I love the Swiss Coffee for your walls! It looks elegant and peaceful with a touch of fun on your ceiling. That was a perfect decision to leave the yellow on your ceiling! Your drapes and transferware really pop agains the walls. You did a beautiful job. We just painted our dining room and living room, or I should say my husband did, Autumn Wheat on the walls with a pale blue on our ceiling. My husband commented that he does not want to paint a ceiling again for a very long time. I enjoy looking through all the projects. I don't have a blog yet but I love to mingle!

Kim this room looks GORGEOUS! I love the new fresh wall color and all of your pretty furniture. Great job on every detail. I can't wait to pick out paint colors for our new home one day. I'm thinking lighter and brighter all the way.

I hope your new year is going well.
Warmly, ~Melissa :)

Kim, it all looks gorgeous. I smiled thinking about the TV ads years ago when a woman would move the furniture into the center of the room, paint the walls, and entertain that evening. Do you remember those? I always thought they make it look so effortless. What they didn't show was all the prep involved in painting a room. It's a lot of work! You make it look just like the ads. Your home looks sparkling, fresh, and bright. I admire your ability to do all that you do in your beautiful home. ~ Sarah

Oh my goodness, I missed a couple posts. I did guess the dining room. I know what you mean. I think your dining room looks very pretty, very elegant. Good job!

Love. Love. Love. the new color! I know exactly what you mean about loving the new "lack" of color!! I, who had a Red Bay ceiling and Golden Fleece walls, am enjoying a more serene pallet these days... maybe it is the grandmother thing.... more likely, it is just a changing trend of color. Love it, Kim!!

For some people, me included, the lighter the color the calmer the room and the calmer I feel when I am in the room. You have a pretty room and china cabinet.

Kim, I love the new look of your dinning room! My kitchen, eating area and family room were York Harbor Yellow, and this past fall I painted them Springfield Tan by Benjamin Moore. I love that you kept the ceiling color yellow. It does give a beautiful warmth to your dinning room. And dances with the light coming in your window!

You have a great eye for design, your curtains and chair pads are beautiful. They almost have an old world look to them that has been muted. I just love them! They tie together all those lovely colors you chose.

My living room and dinning room are on the re-do schedule for the fall. I'm going more neutral too with my walls. I'll check out the gorgeous color you used.

Wonderful job, great and inspiring post!

I don't crank out may re-do projects, but I love visiting everyone's creativity each week.

Hi Kim, The new color looks wonderful. It looks so bright and fresh in your dining room. I love the placement of your accessories, too. I think the basket on top of your cabinet is a favorite of mine, too :). I agree about ceilings being a pain to paint - another great job, girl!

Love the color. It has an elegance to it. Were your drapes custom made? They look like they match the material on one of the chairs.

Kim @ Savvy Southern Style said...

Angela V., I purchased the drapes already made at a local home decor shop. Then I found the same fabric and recovered the two chairs myself. Thanks so much for asking.

Thanks everyone for the sweet comments.

Adrienne said...

Perfect! Absolutely perfect! Love the new color and the way everything stands out on its own. I understand exactly how you felt with the wrong color before. I recently painted my guestroom a lovely color that seemed the way to go and then I realized it wasn't what I wanted! Too much color. The rest of my home has very soft hues on the walls - the guestroom color is lovely. But not on my walls! The project isn't finished so I'm thinking before it all comes together I may mix the remainder of the paint with white to cut it in half. Think I'll like it better. Thanks for the inspiration.

Kim, I love the neutral new color! I am a huge fan of neutral because I love fabric and art and to me neutrals really let those items speak for themselves. The first thing I noticed was the drapes...they really stand out now and the artwork with the girl playing the violin...love that!

LOVE the new color! And that you kept the yellow ceilings! The overall feel is so great! So warm & welcoming! :)

Traci said...

Well, I don't have any projects to show yet. I REALLY want to paint the ceiling in my dining room but I HATE HATE HATE the thought of having to do that. I think your dining room turned out great. It's so funny how colors look different in different spaces. Swiss Coffee was the color my bedroom was painted when we bought our house & while I liked it, I just thought it was too light.

Upscale Downhome said...

Thanks for sharing your dining room redo. It looks FAB! I especially love the red transferware plate with the little green above it on either side of your hutch. I had been admiring the fabric you used on your drapes for months in the fabric store and couldn't figure out where to use it. Seeing it again gave me some inspiration. Thanks!

Kim said...

Kim it looks GREAT! Now - don't change another thing! Your home is already perfect. I just have to ask - where did those new sconces go that were on either side of your hutch? Is that another post?

Kelsie From Our Country Home said...

The room looks lovely...This color would have been my choose too...actually it was or very close to it...My entire house is painted "Tawny Birch" which is a lovely soft cross between tan and yellow..I love it, as it does give the house a nice cozy feel without being to over powering...Maybe one day I will get around to painting the living room ceiling tray a coordinating darker yellow/orange color, but I am waiting to get some crown molding worked into the budget first.

Love how all your accessories look with the new color also and the color continuity thru the doors to the rest of the house is lovely and creates a wonderful inviting flow from one space to the next.

Thank you for sharing your gorgeous space with us once more.

Blessings Kelsie

PS: Love the green back in the hutch, adds just the right amount of color to that large wall.
