Practice practice.
I painted two coats of paint and then applied Annie Sloan soft wax in clear. Then I distressed the piece with sandpaper and a sanding block. I then applied some rugger brown Fiddes & Sons wax in places and more clear wax and then buffed to a shine. I am loving the new look.

The top looks fabulous with that vibrant color. This dresser certainly has the WOW factor.
I have not used chalk paint, but I think I just migt have to! I have a cupboard in my family room that I would love to give a coat of chalk paint!

Love, love, love this color! I adore painted furniture and this is an example of why... so pretty. I have not jumped on the chalk paint band wagon. It's just so hard to me to believe that applying it without sanding first will still give a permanent finish. Plus so many times when you paint something there is something wrong with the old finish. I know when I painted my dining room furniture, it had to be sanded because the old finish was in such poor shape. If I had not sanded...the new paint would have been flaking off.

Ok..I knew you were up to this, and I wasn't sure I was going to be able to stand to see such a beautiful piece of furniture changed...keeping the top the old stain turned out perfect...the blue is just stunning and what an unexpected pop to that room, I loved it and didn't think I would, you know me afraid to be out of my traditional world myself but sure do enjoy what you do. Gives me inspiration to try something and jump out of this square ole box I'm in!

Such a pretty colour, Kim. I love the details on that great piece, and the distressing and waxing really accented it. I have not tried Chalk Paint, but I'm seeing some great inspiration. I have an old old sideboard that we are currently using as a tv stand in our family room. I'm thinking it needs a treatment like that. Thanks for sharing.

Kim- It looks beautiful. I can see why you were a bit hesitant to paint it-it was beautiful in the before too! But it is gorgeous now. I haven't tried the chalk paint yet but I will be trying it one of these days. I LOVE that color..it doesn't look Old Violet at all-looks perfectly blue to me!

I think this is my favorite piece that you have done, Kim. I like all of your pieces but this color is fun and unexpected and I think has a touch of whimsy to it. I love it!
What a difference! Kim, this looks gorgeous. I love the French blue color. I hope to paint a piece with chalk paint in green if I can get one that will work for me. It needs to work with woodwork of a deep forest green. I plan to leave the top a wood tone. Any suggestions?

Hi kim! Oh my gosh, your piece turned out awesome! I love the old violet! I'm sitting here with my nose pressed up to the front window waiting for my chalk paint, wax and brushes to arrive.
It' been over a week since I placed my order and I can't even remember which colors I decided on:) I'm so excited to get started. So much to do since I'm just starting out with my new business; so many things to learn, so many choices to make.
Anyway... hopefully I'll be able to post some pictures soon.

I love that color!! I have jumped on the band wagon but I couldn't commit to a color any bolder than white!! They did send me a sample of Louis blue that I am excited to try. You are so fearless with color and everything you touch becomes perfection. I would love if you would offer your opinion of my latest project. I want to go bold but am scared!!!! I am definitely on the band wagon with the Chalk Paint. I have ordered three different times in the past three weeks! I am ordering colors I don't have anything to paint them in yet! I have not ordered Old Violet yet but from looking at this piece of yours it is exquisite. I have also just discovered using the dark wax and love it. I will be posting another dresser I did next week. I have posted a dresser and end table, a wicker cabinet and a dining table was posted for this link, all painted with Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint. I even ordered both her books... I am an adict right now! Smile... Oh, and I am glad you left the top stained! Looks great!
