Welcome to WUW # 13. I was working in the yard on Sunday afternoon and I decided I needed to get some flowers for the bed in the front yard so we made a trip to Home Depot. Actually Home Depot is only five minutes from our house. We also needed some fertilizer with weed killer in it since we have been taken over by pesky weeds. They are so much worse this year. We do everything right each year to keep this yard in shape and it just doesn't matter. We still get taken over with weeds. I hate weeds! I love thick green manicured lawns and those do not include weeds. Alright, I am through venting!
We ended up getting some knockout roses for this area. I see them everywhere around here so they should do good. Only problem I don't have luck with roses, but maybe since this area gets lots of sun they will survive.
I know these grow taller than I want so I guess I will be pruning a lot to keep them small.
All the rose bushes were marked cherry red, but we obviously got one oddball pink one. That's o.k. I like variety.
While out working I saw some high places in the pine needles and went over to mash them down or to see if it was more lirope coming up under the pine needles. When I mashed it down with my foot all of a sudden something ran out from under my foot and I screamed! We have had a copperhead snake in here before so I get a little nervous. Do you see the little baby at the edge of the hole? Really hard to see.
This is what ran out of a hole under the pine needles. There were three of them. They ran out one at a time. They are so cute. I ran in to get my camera and this was close to dusk. I can't believe I tried to mash their home in. Sorry babies.
This one came out blurred, but I only had a few chances to grab these shots. We didn't want to scare them off. Mr. Savvy was very surprised that the mama chose the front yard to have her babies. I hope they make it. We have a lot of predators around here. I know the hawks would love a rabbit dinner.

These are just precious! We have them under our shed, so I don't see them often. My little dog likes to catch them and bring them to us...intact thankfully!

Cute Bunny Kim. We had to dig out our Knockouts on the patio wall...they got to be huge!! We enjoyed them several years though. They were quite a show piece against the white stairs.
We just got back from the lake. Almost forgot to post my WOW post, this evening! I bought a little canvas at Marshall's and posted it at my facebook and one thing led to another...someone mentioned it looked like The Shell Seekers illustrations, which sent me on a search. I didn't find the illustration I was looking for but I did find a wonderful artist in B'ham who has a blog. That was like a nice surprise bonus.:-) Anyhow...I'll be back to visit the partiers in the morning...long day today!
I thought you were going to say it was a snake again, Kim! I have those little babies in my back and front yards. Toddler size ones, too. Arent't they adorable. I love watching them play tag with each other.
You will love knock out roses! I have 1 bush in my perenial garden and just love it. It does go through a time when the weather is very hot that it does not bloom, but picks up again in the fall.

Sweet baby bunnies! It doesn't get much better than that! I planted knock out roses 2 years ago and I love them. Very maintenance free and so easy!

I think I'd have a heart attack. Those little bunnies are adorable. Let's hope they stay safe until they're old enough to find another home. I'm glad you were able to get some pictures before they ran off.

Awwww, the bunnies are so cute. I did get surprised by a snake - a copperhead - last week at my sisters in Georgia. It was about a foot from me and yes I about peed my pants. Would have much rather been surprised by bunnies. lol

Those knock-outs are supposed to be very low maintenance. I have family members who have them and they say you can't go wrong with them. I'm planning to get some too before it gets too hot out.

That is so sweet! I love baby bunnies. We had a bunny nest in my herb garden one year. Very hard to see until I was cleaning out the dead leaves and grass and there it was. Thanks for having us.

Oh My Goodness I'm on "CUTE OVERLOAD HERE"! They are just darling!!! I used to put my carrot peels out for the baby bunnies AND I got to watch them grow and NIBBLE away at the peels. TOO CUTE!

Oh how adorable! We had a bunny live in our backyard for over a year, he would walk up and sit next to us. Of course the doxie's gave him a merry chase, but I think he enjoyed it!

The bunny's are too cute! We always see the "evidence" of bunny's in our yard but rarely do we see the actual thing. I so understand how you feel about the weeds. I swear they have a mind of their own. The Knockout Roses are AWESOME. I have 5 in my yard & they're soooo easy. Water is all they need. Love them!
Even though rabbits can cause a lot of garden havoc, those bunnies are cute!
Knock out roses have been a big hit across the south especially because humidity and extreme heat made some others difficult to grow. Let me suggest Drift Roses. They were developed by the people who did Knock Outs. They only grow 18 inches high and spread about 3 feet. They come in several colors. No pruning unless you just want to. You'll love them.
Good luck with your roses. I hear pine needles are the best mulch for them. That's what I used last month.
If mine survive, I'll do more.

Love the bunnies. My heart jumped when you mentioned the copperhead. Bob just killed on our drive yesterday and my next door neighbor had one in her garage a week ago. We think they are coming from a lot that is being cleared.

Precious !! They'll be okay (let's hope) !! We had a family of bunnies in our pine straw a couple of years ago ... I would actually lose sleep at night, worrying about a snake from our marsh coming to visit them. They're so cute, aren't they? And, love your knock-outs! Trust me, if I haven't killed ours, yours will be fine !!
