The Drop Leaf Table

A couple of weeks ago I showed you a drop leaf table I purchased at a really great price. I showed you the damage on it and how I covered the flaws with Restor A Finish.  Many made the comment that they would see how long it is before I paint it. Not happening. It will stay in its natural state. Now I am ready to show you where I placed it.

This is the way this area did look. I decided to move this chest back in my bedroom and now let's see this spot now.

This is how it looks now. At first it took me a while to get used to the size difference, but now I love it.

On top is this chicken wire charger from PB last year topped with old leather books, antlers and another pair of old glasses.

This is another piece of coral I found for only $4 at the antique store. It fell during the chest and table switch and a lot of the tips broke off.

This old crock sits on the table now instead of in the cabinet.

My concrete sheep rests here.

And this reproduction Staffordshire piece sits on top of the cabinet.

So what do you think. Not bad for $60. You like this or the chest here better?

Have a super week!

You know I like this table in place of the chest and the chest beside your bed. The chest looked great there too though. It's always so much fun to get a new piece of furniture and come home and play with it!

It looks great there Kim. I love that little cabinet you arranged on top. Very cute!

I like the table. It seems more in scale for the space with what you have on it. You do a great job.

I like the cabinet too. Drop leaf tables are great, especially when you need extra room for entertaining!

I think it looks nice there, Kim...and one of the things that I like about it is that because it is a bit lower nothing sticks up above the stair rests...your lamp is below it and so is the chicken. I never really noticed that before until comparing the two pictures. Nice job and I don't think I would ever paint it either- xo Diana

What a beautiful table and a steal, WOW! I do like the table there, the warm tones of your hardwood floor and the warm tones of the table are very compatible, a perfect fit!

I love the dropleaf table there but also like the dresser too! It's fun to move things around isn't it! I should be doing that myself!

I like them both there, but I think I am loving the drop leaf. I love the natural wood against the wall. It is lovely!

Kim that is a good looking table, and you are right, it looks great natural, I love the contrast to the wall. Looks good there!

Grace @ Sense and Simplicity said...

I like the dark wood of the table rather than the light paint of the chest. I also think the table is a better height as the things on the chest almost ran into the moulding on the stairs. The table looks fantastic and like it was meant to be there.

Liz said...

You know, I think I would prefer the lighter table during the spring and summer and the darker drop leaf table for the fall and winter. Both are gorgeous pieces. I love all your accent pieces, too! XO ~Liz

I was working on a drop leaf table almost JUST LIKE this one today. In fact, I searched the internet for inspiration because mine is so damaged that I have to paint it. Yours is lovely and in much better shape than mine. And, I love the shape of yours. Mine is a bit larger. Love your vignette. Now I know where I will come when I get ready to stage it. What do you think...Antique White?

I think you're going to be really happy to have left the table in its more natural state. I like the painted furniture, but both the natural and the painted are complemented, one by the other.

marty (A Stroll Thru Life) said...

Such a beautiful table and you can do so many different vignettes. I love the look of the dark wood with the other pieces in your room. It plays off nicely with all the painted pieces. Gives the room some warmth. Hugs, Marty

I love both... I like being able to change things up! I have been wanting to do a post on the table I got in Atlanta.. It's at the end of my bed now, but it would literally go in my living room, family room, top of stairs, etc. I have not gotten motivated enough to move the table to all the places and photograph yet... maybe this winter on a snow day!
Your home looks absolutely lovely and charming... I love all your adorable accessories!

I love both pieces...would be a hard decision, but both look great! Your vignettes created surrounding the table are inviting, unique and so interesting! :)

Kim, I like that you left the table natural wood. It makes a nice contrast with the wall paint color and looks great with your floors. Love the table and the vignette.

I love the table there, too but it seems a little swamped by all that is on top and around it. Such a stunning table should be the hero of the area but it is lost somehow in the mix. Just my opinion.

Love it. Looks more proportionate. The staircase isn't competing with the lamp. Everything is beautiful. Don't you love it when things just click?

Its always fun to try different furniture arrangements. I love both looks. I loved the chest there and I love this totally different look too. I think you have more room this way. The vignette you created on top of the table is perfect. I also love the pillows in your basket. My favorite pillow is the one on the chair. Great look.

I think it is nice to see some wood in the area, mixed with all the paint. Just gives a little richness. Looks like fall and winter as well. And with the holidays coming it could come in handy for serving, just pull up a leaf or two. I think you done good. Richard from My Old Historic House.

I like the drop leaf better in your hall. The size does take getting used to, but because it's wood, your accessories pop. Like Richard said, it is versatile and will come in handy during the holidays for extra dining.
Great purchase!

You have developed your own style which is warm and charming. I would like to see the table without the chair and basket around it. I would also decide if I liked the cabinet or the lamp best and eliminate one. You have lovely things, but they get lost when you have so many together. As you can tell I am a less is more type!
