I would like to share how my breakfast room has transformed over the last few months. The room never looked bad, but it just needed to be freshened up a bit. Just like we need to be freshened up a bit from time to time. The wall color stayed the same since I just painted it a few years ago. Oh, how I wish I had pictures of my original walls. Just picture wallpaper with a white background with shades of rose to plum and light blue to dark blue flowery things all over the walls. That was what I liked when we built the house in 1995. Oh, the jewel tones were the thing. In fact, I saw the wallpaper in a model home and loved it so I had to have it in my kitchen. Of course over the years styles change and so did my taste.
After going and looking at home tours and seeing all the new colors in these show homes I quickly fell in love with the greens, brick reds, yellows and blacks and started incorporating these colors into our home. This was over years of time. I found the green wall color I wanted in the kitchen and went to work. I used Benjamin Moore rosemary sprig. I even liked the name of the paint color. Oh, this looked so much better than that wallpaper.
This is the before picture with the new paint color.
The chairs to this table were originally a blue almost a teal. I painted them black and distressed them.
We have had this table and chairs since 1980. Still in very good shape. Solid maple butcher block top farm table which I loved and used a very long time.
This hutch belonged to Mr. Savvy's mother. It was just a brown wood color and I painted it red. I took the glass out of the doors and add chicken wire and fabric. I have some of my rooster collection on top.
This is the window treatment that we have had for many years. We actually bought this custom treatment at
a local flea market and it was the perfect size. We got such a great deal on it. You can see some of the transom window above the window treatment. The way I had this hung was really drawing the eye down and was taking away from the transom.
Then a few months ago I found a new spot in the house for the red hutch so I could turn the table this way. I always felt it should be turned this way, but I had to work with the red hutch. I love it turned this way. Then I was sitting there one day looking at a French Country book by Charles Faudree and saw how he used a bench at the table. I thought, hey I have a bench and tried it and it worked. O.k. now it is looking better. This table is really small when we have anyone over to eat and really no room for serving pieces on the table. So one day while out shopping I found a table and chairs I thought would be perfect in my breakfast room. I got all excited until I looked at the price tag. I left and knew that table and chairs would not be mine.
Then one day I received a mailer from that store and everything in the store was ON SALE up to 40%!!
I thought well, that table and chairs has probably been sold or it is only 10% off. I gave them a call and asked if they still had the farm house table and chairs and they DID! Oh, I was getting excited. I asked how much is it on sale for and it was 40% off!! Oh me oh my! Now all I have to do is ask Mr. Savvy if we can get a new table and chairs. How would I pull this off?? I gave him a call and in my sweetest voice I said you know our anniversary that is coming up in February. A big one. #35!! Well, since we aren't going on a trip do you think we could get a table and chairs I have had my eye on and now is on SALE?! He then said o.k. and I was so excited! Now I know a lot of you want jewelry or a trip or something for your anniversary, but give me something for the house and I am in hog heaven!! Here are some pictures of my new breakfast room.
Just look at that wonderful yellow chippy farm table. It just exudes Country French. It is nice and big with big chairs. Plenty of room to spread out. The chairs have rush seats.
This is my new chandelier that we bought on line before Christmas and my husband installed it. The burlap shades are from ebay. I looked at some on line at Ballard's and they wanted sixteen dollars a piece. I don't think so. I bought all six of these for twenty dollars. Woo hoo! The chandy was cheap, too. In fact I have seen it being sold on line at Walmart now.
This shows full view and shows a good picture of the new window treatments. I ordered these on line from Country Curtains. I love buffalo checked or gingham fabrics. I wasn't sure what color to order, but am pleased with the red. Red is in almost every room in the house anyway.
I hope I didn't bore you to death. Be sure and let me know you stopped by and be sure and go to

ReplyDeleteKim, what a wonderful metamorphosis! I'm so glad your husband said yes to that beautiful table. I love your style so much that when I am shopping I now ask myself "would Kim buy this for her house" ...lol!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful room! Love the large check drapes! They are a favorite of mine too.
ReplyDeleteI loved your old table and chair, but this one is perfect! It looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteOK you just need to stop, you have the exact taste that I love. You have my same problem with the center of the chandelier. Would the pillow chairs fit against the wall, when not in use, and then the table could move over a tad under the new chandelier?
ReplyDeleteI need about a foot more room, you just need a little bit.
Love it, can't wait to see the sun room.
Haha, I think I heart you!! My hubbie same way, don't try to move a thing, then he love's it. He didn't want the numbers on my chest of drawers, now he loves them. I am really not that OCD, I just have the same hiccup so it caught my eye.
ReplyDeleteLove the color on the walls and new curtains, amazing how they draw your eye up. Have a nice night.
What a great transformation, Kim! I'm with you on asking for furniture/decor instead of jewelry. For my birthday two years ago, my husband transformed our front door for me. I love it!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!
Simply beautiful transformation. I love that new table and chairs. The window treatments are perfect as well.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I LOVE the room...even the way it was, but when you added the new window treatments and THAT TABLE! I just can't get over how perfectly ballanced it is and what a statement it makes. I love the color green you chose. In my shops, on my furniture and in my homes I tend to use Ben Moore's "Dried Parsely". The next time I go to the paint store, I am going to take a look at yours. I find that certain greens go with absolutely everything! One time, when they mixed my paint, they read the numbers wrong and gave me the wrong green. My shop would have looked very "kids clothes" or "ice cream shop". You get the right green, it goes with decorating for every holiday and beyond! Hats off to you!
You did a wonderful job! Karen
Wow, Kim....so nice to meet you and your beautiful blog. That table and chairs that your sweet hubby "bought" you for your 35th ANV is so amazing. I really love it. Your Bailey is just too adorable and precious! I'm about to read back through your blog, it's so lovely!
