See these chickens covered in old book pages? These are new in the Ballard Designs Catalog and the large one is $129 and the small one is $99. What?! Well, I thought I would make my own for a whole lot less.
Yep, here it is. What do you think? What? It doesn't look finished. Well, I guess I better go finish it then.
I can't wait to show you the finished project! If Mr. Savvy likes it I am sure you will, too.
It truly amazes me sometimes what they think people will pay for things. I guess some people do, but good Lord. $129 for a paper covered chicken? Can't wait to see yours finished.
It's going to be fantastic~ I absolutely love Ballard designs and love getting the look for less even more!! Can't wait to see the finished product! :)
I love Ballard, but hate their prices--they are more for inspiration than buying. Your chickens will probably end up looking better than Ballard's! Best, Susan
I love Ballard Designs. I salivate over their new catalog each time it comes. But, man are they expensive! I usually find a similar item for a fraction of the cost at Hobby Lobby. Can't wait to see the chicken.
I love the Ballard look too but wonder what they are smoking when they set their reeeediculous prices! ;) Your chicken looks like it's going to be better than Ballards anyway, can't wait to see it! xo
Ballards is out of their minds to charge that much! I love that you are willing to create a similar chicken for a lot less! Can't wait to see the finished chicken!
Kim, it's going to be even better than the one in Ballard Designs. ;-) Funny when I saw the photo from Ballard's I realized that they have copied the idea from a French artist. I purchased a pair made of paper maché from French newspapers 5 years ago. The artist was doing all kinds of animals, even a life size ostrich. They were really fun pieces. I'll send you a photo. The details are amazing. There is an "e" where the eye would be. ;-) You are going to love your rooster! ~ Sarah
I really can't imagine having so much money that I'd spend $129 on a paper covered chicken! :) I'm sure yours will be beautiful and can't wait to see it finished.
I tend to compare the price of everything by the price of a chair, around $600.00 (on sale of course), so I could by 1/3 of a good chair for that!!!! ANd the bigger problem is, that paper mache rooster looks so chic now but will be out of vogue in a couple of years! Good sense and great idea, Kim! Yvonne
Kim you made me laugh - thank you! Yes, those prices are outrageous, we need to learn paper mache all over again I guess! Looking forward to your finished product.
Hi lovely lady. Yes this is Outrageous !! So happy to see you are making your own look forward to see it finished!! Thanks so much for having your party on your Blog. I hope you and your family have a Happy Easter. XXOO Diane
Your chicken is a riot!! I'll tell you when your finished it will look better than Ballards.. I don't even look into their catalog any more.. their prices are just too high! You need to go to Old Time Pottery and I bet you will get a chicken like Ballards for $5.00... Good luck with yours, I'll be back to see it! Sandy
Kim, I am sure your rooster will be just as cute, if not more, than the Ballard one. They have great stuff but the prices can be outrageous. xo, Sherry
LOVE it! I like how to took your little rooster from room to room to find a home. Sounds like something I would do! I didn't see these in Ballard. I guess I will have to head over there and take a little peek! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Kim, I have an iron rooster I got at Pier 1 several years ago...wonder if it's the same as yours. Or is yours made of paper maché? Anyway, cute & sassy rooster! You won't believe this....I ordered the vase with frog around 4pm and got it the NEXT day - less than 24 hours later (even after the "out of stock" notation). Now, that's service! Linda

ReplyDeleteThat is crazy, Kim, for a chicken. I'm with Gloria. I love Ballard's, too, but seriously. I'm looking forward to seeing yours!
ReplyDeleteBrandy, I purchased it several years ago at Pier One and then painted it blue last year to use outside on the deck.

Ballard's is mighty proud of their chickens! $129?!

ReplyDeleteGeeze, who would pay that much for something like that? Not that I don't like them, I just don't get how you'd be willing to pay full price....
ReplyDeleteI love making replicas of things... Not only is it a lot cheaper, but you also get to display your handiwork!
Yours are fabulous Kim!
ReplyDeleteCool beans Kim! I just saw another gal do this, and they turned out soooo cute!
