Remember this green chest which was my first paint and glaze project?
This is what it looked like before the green paint and glaze. This was my second blog post. So many changes since then.
It looks different in this light, but is really the same. I almost forgot to stop and take a picture before I started this project. This project was kind of a whim. I was walking by it and then that light bulb came on again!
This is a close up of the detail before I started changing it up.
I decided to play some more with my new love, chalk paint. I was going to just highlight the details, but then I started doing a little more.
Next thing I knew I had added the chalk paint to the drawer fronts, too.
Then I added a coat of clear wax. Hard to tell in the photo, but the wax darkens the color.
The chalk paint color is Old Ochre like I used on the little table I bought.
Oh, I almost forgot, I sanded some, too. This chalk paint is so easy to sand.
After the clear wax I used a dark brown wax and then the clear wax again to achieve this layered look.
I just noticed I put the bottom handle on upside down. Oops.
I love the new look. Even Frenchier. Is that a word? It is now.
I wish you could see this in person. Photos don't do it justice.
I can't wait to get my next color of chalk paint so I can play some more.
Beautiful chest! I love the new look. Isn't that chalk paint fun?
ReplyDeleteChange is always good! ~Susie
Kim, it looks fantastic. You definitely are mastering the art of painting furniture. I love the new look. It really does look more "frenchy". Beautiful. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful Kim. That chalk paint has a beautiful patina.
ReplyDeleteI am really loving the two toned look! It looks great Kim!
ReplyDeleteKim, Girl you are wearing me out!! I can't even get it done the first time and here you are going for round two and three!
ReplyDeleteThis turned out beautifully. I was in love the first time but it has the WOW factor now. Thanks for sharing.
Ginger
Loves it Kim! I just finished up both my pieces in my bedroom today. I am exhausted! I said to my Mom, I don't know how Kim paints all this furniture lol..she must take a lot of advil, because I know I popped some!
ReplyDeleteYou are giving Marion a run for her money!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful piece of furniture. Every way you look at it. Your new treatment is just dazzling! You must be thrilled. When are you going into business?
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing, Kim, from how it originally looked to when you painted it the first time. It really brought out the details and the pretty handles. I've been reading a lot about this chalk paint lately. I haven't used it myself but everyone who has really seems to like it.
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower, and I must say, I am so glad I did follow your blog! Your work is beautiful! You did a wonderful job, I love that chalk paint. it always looks so nice!

ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I love what you've done with the finish! It looks great!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous Kim!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the way it used to look...that brown wood colour! Oh so much better. Remember the days when people would just gasp at painting a wood piece?
Too funny about the upside down knob. I so want to try this paint on something you and Debbie have done a great job with it. Lori
ReplyDeleteOh, Wow! Kim, you outdid yourself! That chalk paint is awesome. What a beautiful transformation! It really turned out gorgeous and it was already that pretty to begin with. Thanks for linking it up!
ReplyDeleteSherry
An Amazing Transformation, I know it was alot more work than just painting with white paint, but So Worth It!
ReplyDeleteJust lovely. The chalk paint really brought out the detail. I just got my box of chalk paint in the mail yesterday and can't wait to use it!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend,
Marianne :)
I wish I had your kind of "paint light bulbs" going off in my head. But I am at a loss with a paint brush in my hand. When did you start dabbling with this and get so professional at it? I'm telling you, this could be another career!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I'm really going to have to try some of this chalk paint! What a gorgeous result you got!
ReplyDeleteWoman!!! You wear me out, but I swear you make the prettiest, frenchiest things!!! I think frenchiest/frenchier is now a word! You are awesome!
ReplyDeleteWoman!!! You wear me out, but I swear you make the prettiest, frenchiest things!!! I think frenchiest/frenchier is now a word! You are awesome!
ReplyDeleteYou KILL me!! The vision, each time, is better than the last. I love the way this came out. But, I have a question -- my endless projects tend to drive my family nuts. Do your projects have that effect on your family, too? LOL :)
ReplyDeleteCheryl-Zanymayd, this is actually easier to me. No priming or sanding before painting. The waxing is pretty easy and the chalk paint sands off so easily. I add the ochre color to this piece and waxed it in less than two hours.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I loved the old paint job but the new one is even better!
ReplyDeleteCarol, it is just me and the husband and he has his own projects (old cars) that he works on. I really don't have many projects going. I have another chest I am going to do when my new chalk paint color comes and then I have more walls to paint and bathroom cabinets.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know I love your blog & selected you for a Versatile Blogger Award. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job!

ReplyDeleteGirl you are a Furniture Artist!! I am lovin' that chaulk paint look!
ReplyDeleteChange IS good when it's in capable hands like yours. You always push things up a notch!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Susan
Another stunner!! Kim, what kind of wax do you use and how do you apply it? I'm working up the nerve to paint an antique golden oak dresser. Wonder if chalk paint would cover the grain?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful change, Kim! Look forward to seeing what else you're painting! *Becca*
ReplyDeleteIt looks great Kim! You are very talented with all of your painting projects. BTW - Frenchier absolutely is a word - I looked it up in the Blogland Dictionary! : }
ReplyDeleteNancy, I used minwax paste wax in natural for the clear wax and Howard Citrus Shield premium color paste wax in dark oak for the dark wax. The site I ordered the chalk paint from has the clear and dark I want on back order so I used these and they did fine. I applied and buffed with an old t shirt cut up to make rags.
ReplyDeleteYou will probably have to do two coats of the chalk paint to cover that. I am sure it will look good.
Thanks
I LOVE YOUR NEW HAIR STYLE!!!!!
ReplyDeleteKim! I came over to comment and aren't I lucky that I am leaving this under your title..."Change is Good!"
You look great!
Love it, gorgeous GF!
Beauty inside and out.

Very pretty, Kim. i have heard about chalk paint, but I have not tried using it yet. Is it really that easy to work with?
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about chalk paint. How cool! Love the look of the "new" piece. Thanks for the inspiration and tip.
ReplyDeleteI'm seeing chalk paint everywhere these days. Guess I should jump on the bandwagon. Would you believe I've only painted one piece of furniture? I feel so out of the loop! lol You did a great job! Looks fab.
ReplyDeleteI really like the two tone colors. It accents it nicely. Great job! You are fast becoming a Miss Mustard Seed graduate!!
ReplyDeleteKim, Love the two toned look. It just amazes me how beautiful your pieces turn out.. mine would be a muddy mess. Keep the great ideas coming.

Kim you sure can rock some paint... looks amazing.. But everything I have seen is... what a great job... have a super weekend
ReplyDelete~~Pattie~~
As I was scrolling down, I was hoping that you link your furniture makeovers to Miss Mustard Seed's Furniture Feature Friday! They are always amazing! AND I am impressed at how quickly you do these...it has taken me about six months to finish one piece...much harder than I thought! (I googled 'vintage light bulbs' or Thomas Edison light bulbs and think mine came from amazon...shop around because the prices vary greatly!) Thanks! Christie
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous transformation. I love all the layered look. Your colors are stunning. I think you got the last handle right and the other ones are upside down.
