It is really hard to get a good shot of this without reflections and glare. I need to get some non glare glass.
I painted the frame with chalk paint in Old White and then distressed it and waxed with clear wax.
This shows the piece inside that the shirt attaches too. I love how it has a linen look. This was gray and I painted it with the chalk paint, too.
Here it is all pinned in place by Mr. Savvy. He is better at that than me.
Now it just needs to be hung where it is going.

Looks great, Kim! It will look great anywhere you put it in your home! Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteThe shadow box is lovely, Kim, and a wonderful memory to have too. You might consider a sticker on the back noting that it was worn by hubby for history sake.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this, I may try this with my hubbys old cracker jacks as well. He crossed over to the officer side and is no longer required to wear it anymore and I always wondered what i could do with it....thanks again for the great idea..
ReplyDeleteKim,

ReplyDeleteSorry, Kim. Lulubelle stays with me. Let's put it this way.....If there were a fire, she is the first thing (other than my family) that I would grab. Check out Roz Art on etsy. She specializes in cows. Thanks for your kind comment!!

My husband brought home some of his dad's Navy stuff Sunday. I don't even know for sure what he took and what his sister took, but I'm certainly going to find out. This would be a wonderful way to display things. Thanks for the timely post!
ReplyDeleteYour sailor uniform is really cute framed. You will enjoy it so much more than if it were put away in a closet. Thanks for hosting WUW.
ReplyDeleteDanielle
thank you so much for hosting.
ReplyDeletelauren
That looks just like a museum piece! Not that it's that old...just nice! Beautiful job! It'll look terrific on display!
ReplyDeleteThe shadowbox with the naval uniform shirt looks great- I like that you painted the backer board, as well. :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat way to keep this and showcase it. I used a shadow box to spotlight the tiny wooden getas and chopsticks that my husband wore and used as a toddler in Japan. Much better than pushing them away in a drawer or closet. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteKim...I love the shadowbox with the uniform in it. Does the Uniform belong to someone in the family or did I miss that part? LOVE it...Diana
ReplyDeleteKim I love it!!!What a wonderful momento, I am sure your hubby is pleased with the results. I really do love it, Kathysue

Kimberly, I am afraid you would have to have a blog to link to the party. What kind of wow do you have to share. Email me at kimnichols45@hotmail.com

What a great idea for a uniform! I didn't think of anything like that - we just gave uniforms to the Goodwill - minus the medals! But I could do something like this for the medals! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time here! Great party! Love the uniform shirt!
ReplyDeletetot
Hi Kim, I was looking forward to seeing the results of the shadowbox project and I love it. It looks very old fashioned, like something I would have seen in my great aunt's big old home. I just love it. Hung in a room with a big brass bed piled high with quilts. And a hand tatted lace tablecloth over the desk. For some reason I couldn't link to the party today. I've never had a problem before. Oh well, I'll try next week. :) ~diane
ReplyDeleteoops! forgot post links! Sorry! Re-doing...
ReplyDeleteKim great job!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that bait bucket!! Too CUTE!
Just got my porch finished up last night! Can't wait for next weeks party!
That is so cool & what a nice tribute to Mr. Savvy. I have one of those shadow boxes that I intend to use for some items that belonged to my grandmother. I think they make the best way to display truly memorable items. Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteCAS
Kim that turned out awesome! You always have the best ideas!!!
ReplyDeleteI have my father's old Navy uniform and have wanted to display it for years. This is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteYou two clever ones have saved a tremendous amount of money doing this as a frame shop would charge a lot of money for a simple shadow box. Yours is far prettier Kim. Thanks for hosting♥
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting WOW. I love how your navy shirt turned out in the shadow box. I imagine you will hang it in the guest room with the other one? I wish I had my Dad's navy shirt. Thinking of him a lot lately because of Father's Day I guess. xo Delores

Kim that is wonderful. My hubs has a pic in his just like that one. I would love to get my hands on one to frame for him. How special.
ReplyDeleteHi, I love how you have framed the Navy vest. What a neat reminder of service. So glad Mr. S. got to join. At least he didn't painted. I love visiting you, you have so much energy it inspires me.
ReplyDeleteI was late getting posted for the party. Your party is on my sidebar but I have started listing from my party page. You were not there. You ARE now.
It looks like I might have to post the porch again next week. Maybe the back porch will be finished.
Hugs, Ginger
