Here are some shots I took last night around eight of my blanket flower.
After some much needed rain on and off in the last week the yard is finally green again. That is my one and only blanket flower from last year that survived.
Most of these shots were taken on P. I tried Macro and they were not clear. I used my tripod since I cannot hold this heavy camera still at all. My tripod is my new friend.
I did absolutely no editing to these shots.
Just wonder if the folks driving by think I am crazy down on my knees in the grass with a camera on a tripod?? Probably do. Oh well, they will get used to it.
Enjoy your Sunday!

YOu are getting to be a pro! LOVE the indian blanket images. What lense do you use?
ReplyDeleteI am looking for a lense for up close pictures that doesn't cost too much. Some are as much as 800.00 or more. I can't justify that for a hobby.
I think photography is also a matter of art and style. YOur's is so lovely!
Yvonne
Incredible photos! You have quite a green thumb and a talent for photography!
ReplyDeleteciao from Newport Beach
I have a very large tripod that was my husband's from his 35mm days a couple of decades ago. Am considering getting the little Gorilla tripod for low to the ground shots.
ReplyDeleteLove the blanket flowers! Such great colors they have!

Yvonne, I really need a stronger telephoto lens, but Pat from Back porch musings blog recommended this one when I first got my new camera. I ordered it from amazon.com and it is a Tamron AF 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 (IF) Macro. It fits my canon camera and is a lot cheaper than the canon lenses. This one was around $300 I think.
ReplyDeleteThose flowers are great, all the different shapes as they bud and bloom and fade. You do great with your yard.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! The flowers are just gorgeous as is your garden. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteKim you took some great photos. I love those flowers. Yes I think I walk around my yard with my camera and my neighbors think...there she is again!
ReplyDeletehugs, Linda
Great shots and lovely flowers! You have a green thumb! I'm with you on the manicured lawn; I love one too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos Kim!! I know my neighbors think I am funny, taking pictures of my veggie garden all of the time!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Penny
Beautiful pictures! What is a blanket flower?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos Kim~ your blanket flowers are gorgeous. I am learning my new camera too. I haven't even tried other settings or the macro or anything. I pretty much have used just the regular one.
ReplyDeleteI wonder about what our neighbors think sometimes too... especially when I am lugging furniture out into the front yard to photograph it! lol!
Your yard is so lovely and park like. I roll around the yard taking pics too and I just told my neighbor I was taking pics for a class. Well I am learning right?
ReplyDeleteLove those flowers...my colors! Are they Gerber daisies?
ReplyDeleteNo, it is called a blanket flower and it is a perrenial.
ReplyDeleteKim those are great shots. I am so lacking when it comes to taking good photos. I think I need a class or something!! Great shots,Kathysue
ReplyDeleteYou are doing a phenomenal job Kim!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful! The neighbours will get used to seeing you in contorted poses with your camera - and if they blog they'll understand completely!
ReplyDeleteNice shots, Kim! I think your lawn looks fantastic! You would hate mine especially come August. Once it is so hot and humid on a daily basis it doesn't seem like any amount of watering keeps it green. My hubby is at the point where he will not "baby" it and, well, let's just say it's not green and leave it at that!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots Kim! I'm no photographer and envy anyone a little with the 'knack' ;o)
ReplyDeleteHope it's not too hot there.
Best wishes
Rose H
Awesome shots... Lovely flowers... !!! Love the wrought iron bench in the backyard and the background...!!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful! God is such a show-off! Don't we love his handiwork?!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots!!!! I am not good at taking pictures yet, and want to get a new lens too! I wioll write down what you told Yvonne! Thanks for sharing these! It is good to be back! Just got home from a week at OBX! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful camhera. Great shots. Looks like you are really in love w/ your new camera.
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! I often wonder what people think too when they drive by and see me laying in the grass or standing over top a flower with my camera!!
Have fun...your photo's are awesome!
Wendy
Lovely photos. I love the blanket flowers. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteSuch prettiness! Happy Sunday to you.
ReplyDeleteDanielle
Beautiful flowers & photos!
ReplyDeleteI know exactly how you feel...as soon as I take my camera outside, cars come driving by. I know they think I'm nuts, I just know it.
Great photos, I think your yard and flowers are beautiful. I have a Nikon D-90 and when I put on my 18-200 lens it is quite heavy. Be sure to hold your breath when click, bot that I am any expert ( ha ha) but it does help me when I use my macro lenses.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots. The flowers are beautiful. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteWow Kim Your are totally savvy with that camera! Your images are amazing. i am on a steep learning curve at the moment with a new camera as well, apart from learning all about blogger!

Nice shots Kim!
ReplyDeleteThe lens I used for the post, today is heavier than the 18-200. It is the big white lens, seen in photos of the condo deck. I love that lens, even though it is heavy. Photos close to tack sharp, without editing and without a tripod. I've been using it quite a bit lately. It takes some getting used to because it will not shoot when you are close in to a subject, like the 18-200 does. And it is weighty.
I still use the Tamron 18-200. It is a good starter lens. I prefer the one I mentioned above and my 50mm.
The 50mm is great for low light. I use it for tables, now and then. To tell you the truth, the little lightweight 18-55 kit lens does a great job, plus it has an image stabilizer.
I use a tripod off and on, depending what I am shooting. Roadside shooting with tripod isn't real practical for me, but it works. Most of the photos in today's post are straight from camera. I played in editing with a couple. I love to play with editing options. I didn't use a tripod for any of today's photos or photos for my next post.
I have a canon 70-300, but I like the 70-200 so much better. I want to buy a Canon 18-270mm, and pass along the Tamron 18-200 to my granddaughter.
Have fun practicing. I am going to be doing more. Especially during Summer and Fall. I have been ask to do a couple of photos for our 50th class reunion...special place with good memories for our class. Will be doing that this week. Looking forward to it. I will use the 70-200 for that shoot.
these are lovely photos and the flowers too! our yard is not nearly as manicured as i would like, maybe someday :) i spent about 8 hours this weekend watching baseball. enjoy the day!

The neighbors will get used to it...mine hardly give me a glance anymore. lol. Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI love your flower shots. Wish I could take photos as nice as yours.
I need a new camera or, I need to learn to use the one I already have.
I don't know why, but whenever I look at your blog it just crawls along and takes forever. Must be my computer. It doesn't do it on all of them, just a few, oh well....sense I'm so computer dumb, it's probably me.
hugs
Sissie
The flowers are beautiful but the lil bench is the sweetest.
ReplyDeletebeautiful bench~ i got a new camera this week too, there is always a learning curve...
ReplyDeletethe trick about macro is to bring the camera to the flower, not the zoom :)
i collect and sell bearded iris, i have over 1000 named varieties and take 10s of 1000s of garden pics in season, its impossible to get cloudy days in ca, from dawn to dusk its full blazing sun, just remember to shoot with your back to the sun for the best color when those cloudy days don't exist~
i pretty much figure my neighbors think i'm weird taking pictures of things we're building around the yard or of junk i've hauled home so i can post it on my blog!
ReplyDeletethose flower pics are wonderful. i'm learning on my new camera too but haven't figured out all the dials and buttons yet. it's so different than my point and shoot kodak.
Beautiful flowers and photos!
ReplyDeleteJust LOVE your blog! So inspiring....I can't take a decent picture, suppose a DSL type camera would make things better but I'm intimidated by all the settings. I'll just keep enjoying yours! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome pictures!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots Kim. The colors look great. The afternoon sun can wash them out. I love taking closeup too and I find the auto focus is fussy. Try focusing manually and you might have better luck.
ReplyDeleteSo neat to see your photography progressing. So sorry it's taken me so long to visit, but I've been aways. Looking forward to seeing you Sunday.
