She's Got a New Do

10.21.2011

When I started using the new Annie Sloan chalk paint color, French Linen, I just knew it would be perfect on my bench. It only took me less than two hours to transform it.

I think the new color plus Old White on the details and the addition of the clear and dark waxes has given this bench more of an old French antique look.

This is the sneak peek picture again. This is before adding the waxes. Now take a look at the next picture.

You can see the difference the waxes make plus I added just a few spots of gold with rub n buff here and there.


Here you can see the gold added on the white.

    Kim, I love her new do! Actually I've been in love with this beauty since you first shared her. I think every home should have such a bench for special pillows. Ours isn't nearly this attractive, but it does hold a few seasonal pillows. ;-)

    THAT is one stunning bench, Kim! You did an amazing job with the chalk paint. Two questions for you: When you did the embossed parts with white paint, did you have to paint those separately from rest of the bench with a tiny brush...? And: I'm having issues with blending the dark wax correctly. Any tips? Thanks!

    Okay, I have some questions. You say this took two hours. I'm wondering what it looked like before? Was it already painted? When I'm using the chalk paint on varnished furniture, it's taking me 3-4 coats minimum to get good coverage. How many coats did you use? It sure looks lovely -- maybe I'm being too picky about the finish? I love the details you enhanced with the gold and the dark wax too!

    Yes!! I Love it! I haven't been paying the best of attention to all the tutorials on the chalk paint because I thought I had noting to paint... but I have a bench like this and could really use this makeover. Now I feel like I am completely behind on all this... It has a rush seat and wonder how hard it is to cover that... I need to figure out the supply list. Sounds like you used two colors of paint, two waxes and the rub and buff.. and I guess I need brushes too... I'm so behind!

    Bittersweet...on the one hand, you so inspire me to get up off my behind and paint my black hutch with this awesome paint...on the OTHER hand, I know I can't do it like you do and I'm gonna be LOST...Oh, I can paint..it's the waxes and golds and the beautiful finished look you always get. Maybe I'll start on a smaller piece and THEN do my hutch.:)

    I love your bench! I was wondering if you paint the whole bench French Linen, then go back and paint over the details with old white. Or, do you paint around the details and then just paint them white. You must have a very steady hand - it is just beautiful!
