The Hutch Reveal
This project was so worth the amount of work it took and mess. This is my favorite by far. I wanted to create the look of a very old French antique that has really gotten very worn over the many years with layers of old colors showing through. I hope that is what comes across. I know some won't like this and some will think I ruined a perfectly good piece of furniture. The original was just a factory finish and now it looks more like a piece I found out hunting for the perfect antique. Beware there are lots of photos.
Here is a reminder of the before.
And here is the new improved look. I moved the chairs so you could see it better. Guess I should have moved that great big ole dough bowl, too.
I saw this picture on The Enchanted Home today where Tina was sharing a past trip to Paris. Look at the handles on this chest. They are just like the ones on mine. This is not an inspiration picture. I did not see this until this morning long after painting my hutch. There was no inspiration picture.
The yellow ceiling casts a warm glow in here in the morning time.
Here is a look at the inside. I am leaving the doors shut now since I love the way they turned out.
Or I may leave them open.
There are layers of colors on this piece. The main color is Paris Gray Annie Sloan chalk paint.
I think I like what this piece told me to do. How about you?
Thank you so much for joining me each week at this party. I and many others get so much inspiration from what you take time to share. I look forward to your new links in 2012.
Wishing you a Happy New Year!

ReplyDeleteI just love the piece of furniture you refinished. I have an wall unit that is just begging to be refinished, but my husband is totally against painting the stained wood. I bought it when I lived in Europe and tt was made in Belguium ...looks oh so french. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteKim, I love that hutch too! It looks wonderful, but I can't help but notice that beautiful chandelier...they look great together!
ReplyDeletedebbie
I think this is a wonderful idea for the party! I'm slowly taking my Christmas things down, but I feel stumped, too, about what to do next. It's a long way till Spring, so that would be silly. Is there just winter decor? I need some ideas, please!
ReplyDeleteCAS

ReplyDeleteHi Kim-
ReplyDeleteYou are the master at painting furniture - can't even say painting as you transform it so it looks like it came from a super expensive shop or is a piece that has been passed down from the generations. Just beautiful - everything you do.
I am looking forward to seeing what you do in 2012.
Happy New Year
My best- Diane
Thanks so much for hosting Kim!! Your cabinet is so beautiful, and it looks so gorgeous filled with all your whites!

ReplyDeleteChristy @ toolsforkitchens
It's funny how we never like what we actually have! I spend my life trying to get rid of furniture that looks like that and I only want the pure, unscathed look to my furniture! And you spent hours making your piece look like an antique. It's like people with straight hair getting perms and those with curls going straight. The grass is always greener!
ReplyDeleteThanks again for hosting, Kim. I have always loved this cabinet except when it was the purple:) LOVE the newest color!!! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteI think your cabinet is how I originally found your blog. Hope you had a great Christmas, thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteI can see why the hutch was a favorite post! Thanks for hosting again this week, Laura
ReplyDeleteThat is one of my favorite before and after of yours, as well! What a great idea, too ... allowing us to share fave projects from 2010 at this week's WUW ... especially, because my house looks like a bomb went off right now, so there is nothing current to share this week! Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteOne of your posters, grownfromscratch.com has a trojan on the site. My virus detection blocked it. I hope the person who has this site reads this so they will know. It may have infected her computer as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the great inspiration (especially your cabinet)! I have already visited 4 links!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting Kim. I saw your post and was encouraged to do a "favorites" post of my own.
