This is what it did look like up until a couple of weeks ago. I told y'all I had been painting everything in sight except Mr. Savvy and Bailey, but they better watch out! The mantel was painted Annie Sloan chalk paint in Chateau Gray and it was nice for a while.
Now it has been painted with CoCo by Annie Sloan. It really goes much better with the color of the marble surround.
Here is a picture during the process. You can see the color difference.
The new chalk paint color is still drying here.
I love the new color. When Mr. Savvy came in while I was painting it he just stopped and rolled his eyes. I am quite used to it by now. He does like the new color better.
After the paint was dried I waxed the whole thing with clear wax and only used a little dark wax on this applique.
This job took me less than two hours. That is the beauty of this paint.
At least the vignette on top is still the same.
I always get asked where do I buy my chalk paint from. I have a sponsor on my sidebar.
Robyn Story designs and they ship very quickly. Usually same day if you order before they close.
They also have flat rate shipping.
Happy Monday!

Kim, it looks great - again. I guess I haven't seen the mantel decor, but I like it - symmetry, and yet a little different. Pretty. Did you know that a booth at the Queen in Alpharetta has started carrying Annie Sloan paint? Just wondered if you knew. Linda
ReplyDeleteLoved it before, and after!... You're a nut, you know that, right?
ReplyDelete:-)
I really like the new color. I also like how fast chalk paint works! Made things so much easier in David's room.
ReplyDeleteWhen the mantel speaks, you have to listen; and the mantel knew what it was talking about. Love the new color!
ReplyDeleteI won't call you crazy! I like the new color better too.
ReplyDeleteIf I get in line behind Mr. Savvy it's only going to be because I don't want you to paint me and he's the last thing left! I don't think your're crazy I think you are being creative. It's not like you are changing the color to match the holiday..... red, green, etc. You're not thinking of doing that...right?
ReplyDelete~Bliss~
Kim, I love the new color, it looks perfect! Mr. Savvy and Bailey had better not stand still too long! Of course, I'm sure they would look cute with chalk paint!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Oh I don't think you are crazy~I can totally relate! I just signed up for the ASCP workshop in Boston! So excited!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I LOVE that color COCO, and I don't have it yet~but it looks so nice. I want to try it.
ReplyDeleteI love the new color, Kim!
ReplyDeleteThat is stunning Kim, it does bring the color out in the fireplace. Your husband's expression really made me smile, I get that all the time!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Met Monday....
ReplyDeleteYour fireplace is really unique, and I'm loving the new mantel colour. I've seen some other projects done with chalk paint, and I'm really curious to try it out myself. Just have to find a project to use it on!
Enjoy your new mantel :-)
I love the color! Your mantel is beautiful! Will have to try ASCP sometime soon! I hear wonderful things about it!
ReplyDeleteI like it both ways too. I have a feeling that there will be a 3rd way too. The marble is spectacular.
ReplyDeleteNice color change, Kim. I really like how the details stand out, too. I'm still trying to get to some pieces that need to be painted for the first time!
ReplyDeleteI love the new color! It looks like it picks up the veining color of the marble.
ReplyDeleteI know what it's like to keep walking by something and knowing it's not "just right". I love the Cocoa color! I'm sure that it is a lot warmer too!
ReplyDeleteXO Cindy
The new color looks perfect Kim. It picks up the veining in the marble.
ReplyDeleteI love the new colour - it looks so much more 'settled' than the other. Weird word, I know, but that's how it seems to me.
ReplyDeleteKim, I love how it looks. I have a can of Annie Sloan paint and two cans of wax waiting for me to start a project. I bought it two months ago and I still can not find the time. I have a china cabinet the I would like to paint. Do you think it would take 1 quart of paint or two?
ReplyDeleteWhen you run out of things to paint please come to my house I will give you free rein!
ReplyDeleteGreat new color! Having a little change on something you look at every day is a great way to freshen things up, isn't it? I haven't heard about this paint. Must check it out!
ReplyDeleteLove the soft look of the paint after.
ReplyDeleteI love the new color!!! It looks so beautiful with your marble. I get the eye roll look all the time....except for this past weekend when my husband proclaimed he was speechless. And not in a good way!!!! LOL

Looks super. I love it. Great color. Hugs, Marty

ReplyDeleteI use Coco a lot in my home, mixed layered with Paris Gry and it's amazing. On a fluke, I had gone to buy the French Linen after you had done a piece in that color and my stockist was out, so rather than walk away empty handed (oh the shame in that) I picked up the Coco and I haven't looked back. It's so yummy. Love the mantle redo, it looks great :) I'm sending you an email b/c I have several things I need your advice on.
ReplyDeleteLove the new look. Coco is another one of my favorites and would look good with the tile around my fireplace.
ReplyDeletehummm..you have done it again.
Thanks!
Kim , You are on energetic lady ! The new paint color does look very nice .
ReplyDeleteYep, I like it much better too. Thank goodness we have either understanding hubbies, or they have just given up and know its no use in saying anything. haha
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Barb
I still haven't tried that paint but I really need to! Your mantel looks great. I love the fact that your husband doesn't act surprised that you are always changing things!
ReplyDelete-Shelley
You crack me up, Kim!! ;) I wonder if there is anything out there called painters anonymous? Ha! ;) Seriously, though, I need to bottle some of your energy and creativity. You are on a roll! The mantle looks lovely. I loved the old color, but I really like the new color, great choice. Thanks for sharing! xo ~Liz
ReplyDeleteLove the new color Kim. Now, you are making me want to paint mine!!!
ReplyDeletehugs
Sissie
it looks great Kim! i love that color. i really need to order more chalk paint! have a nice week! susan
ReplyDeleteSince this paint is so easy to use, why not change it up once in a while, I totally get it:-) Beautiful color choice!!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I love the husband rolling his eyes. I mean, I totally can relate to this! I have been caught standing in front of my shelves "thinking" - I must admit, I do look a bit crazy during the thinking process... But it is just how I do it.. I stare and think and stare and think. then something hits me and I go running to the cabinet to pull something out for the shelf..
ReplyDeleteLove the new paint color!
Love the mantel set up!
Love the mantel itself - it's a beauty!
XO
jan
I liked it before...I love it now!!
ReplyDeleteI have a question about the wax you use? Can you tell me about it? And other ways you use it?
ReplyDeleteI have a china white dresser I have painted and the top needs a little more protection but poly yellows the china white, I want it to stay white and not yellow.

LOVE the new color. Coco is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, I liked both colors on your mantel. I just ordered some samples from Robyn (I could drive over there, but I'd probably spend the same amt. on gas!) If my DH doesn't see me paint, he doesn't even notice it. He still hasn't commented on the DR I painted on Friday!
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful Kim- love the dark wax on the appliqué too.
ReplyDeleteLooks good!
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI really like the new color! I think it goes so well with your surround! Hope you had an awesome weekend!
blessings,
karianne
I don't think you are crazy at all Kim and you know I love Coco!! Your mantel turned out beautiful, I like it much better this color.
ReplyDeleteLovin' the new color!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I hope to try ASCP in the near future.
ReplyDeleteI love this! I have yet to try ASCP, but have lots of plans for when I do!
ReplyDeleteYour changes are always inspiring so please don't stop showing us. Playing in our homes is a wonderful hobby and love that now I can see so many others in blog land.
ReplyDeleteI like both colors and I'm "taking bets" on how long you'll leave it gray. LOL. It really does bring out the gray veining in the marble.
ReplyDeleteI agree the tone of the new color fits better with the marble. I get the eye roll from my hubby too every time I have another brilliant idea:) LOL, it just means he loves you for being unique:)
ReplyDeleteI love Annie Sloan Chalk Paint ... best invention of the century, in my opinion. I heard she's coming out with floor paint pretty soon, which really excites me. Love the new color. I haven't tried CoCo yet.
ReplyDeleteKim, I love it! I just want to know when you sleep? You're always doing something! I have to admit it looks better! You have the decorator touch!
ReplyDeleteVery nice Kim!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Susan and Bentley
Your mantel looks great Kim. I love the new softer look of the CoCo. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteBEEEYOU tee full. Really. I love it that your husband humors you. So does mine when I move the furniture around late at night. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks great Kim!
ReplyDeleteYou are one busy girl.
The first shade looked a bit more green and the new one a lot more gray... is that correct?
Either way, I love the color in the room and the contrast with the marble!
Beautiful.
:)
ASCP better put you on their payroll and i mean FAST!!!!
ReplyDelete(At least they should sell you a truckload of stocks?)
Right?
:)
Kim, you have such a great eye for color! Of course it looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteNot crazy, just a little nutty! But I like that about you. You are not afraid of change! The new color looks great. Did you use a little white to highlight the trim?
ReplyDeleteKim, I call you amazing! I admire all your projects. This looks gorgeous. Love the mantel display. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteI have to say the new color is much better. I'm wondering what the next color will be...hee hee. Have you ever thought of removing the sliding mesh curtains and placing a lovely removable fire screen in front of the fireplace opening. There are so many pretty ones out. We got a lovely flat one with doors that open through Plow & Hearth, after I removed my old brass doors and mesh screen. LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteI want to be crazy. I asked hubby if I could paint our mantle with my coco AS. He is not quite sure yet. Maybe I can show him how yours turned out.
ReplyDeleteKim, the color is perfect with your marble surround color. You did a fabulous job! Hugs,
ReplyDeleteFABBY
You know I always like how something in your home looks and then you change it and I like it better even though I already liked it in the first place. You really have the "eye" for what to do...bravo! This is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow- you really have a talent for this! I would be afraid to start!
ReplyDeleteI love the mantel decor too.
Beautiful, Kim! I lolve the new paint color. Hugs, Sherry
ReplyDeleteLove your new color on your mantle!
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
*Why* am I not surprised?! LOL. It looks fab ... you're right ... the color goes beautifully with the veins running through the marble.
