This is the cover of the book and I have always loved the two urns on the mantel filled with natural elements. While at the antique mall a couple of weeks ago I saw two concrete urns that I thought might work on my mantel.
This is what the urns looked like when I purchased them. Only $15 each.
But I did a little work on them to make them look like this. I will share how in another post.
For my version I filled one of the urns with antlers, pods, coral, and sea fans.
I placed an ivy plant and some tall branches in the other one.
Placed a set of antlers by it. Charles, yes, we are on a first name basis, uses antlers a lot in his designs.
Oh, and I also found this wonderful painting at the consignment store to replace the big mirror. I have been wanting a pretty painting in a French country style and believe this is it. I love it!
The mirror that was here before was a temporary fix until I found just the right painting. Patience certainly paid off. I had a store credit and only had to pay $112 for it. Happy dance here!
I just love this painting. I can't stop looking at it.
I don't have walls with dog pictures on both sides of the fireplace like Charles, but this is my version.
I must say one more time I love it!

I have painting envy. That is a beauty! I can certainly see why you jumped on that one. CF is my fave too. I don;t have the Details book yet but I need to make a note to myself to order one soon. Great mantel makeover.
ReplyDeleteKim, I've loved all your mantel designes/vignettes, but this is my all time favorite. LOVE the urns and your paint enhancement on them. I've loved Charles Faudree's designs for years. Even though I don't really have a French country house, I still love that Faudree style.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite designers. I don't have his newest book, is it worth getting?
ReplyDeleteSigh....Kim it is lovely! I too love Charles - and yes we are on first name basis too, ;-). You knocked it out of the ball park with this one!
ReplyDeleteLove that painting....
Kim- That picture is the finishing touch above your mantel. I LOVE it..the colors tie in perfectly with your decor. I love Charles F's books, too. They are full of inspirational eye candy! xo Diana

Hi Kim,
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely....
The new urns are beautiful and the way you filled them up is perfect!
But, that painting is stunning, so much character & interest...I would be sitting back and just take it all in. I love how the colours in the painting tie with the marble on the fireplace surround...
Worth waiting for!
All the Best,
Christine

Kim, I love it! It looks great, all the ingredients and the great urns are perfect! And that painting is perfect. I see why you love it.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
I love your new painting! It really is a great focal point! The colors are so pretty. I am not a big fan of mirrors over fireplaces unless they are reflecting something pretty. Lots of times all you see is a reflection of the ceiling. Your painting is perfection! Love your urns too. It's so hard to find pairs of things like that!
ReplyDeleteI seriously am so impressed with you! Love your rendition of the mantel.. just as beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAND, that book is my favorite. I started turning back pages, and then realized every singe page was turned!! I finally just left them and realized every single page has some kind of inspiration for me!

ReplyDeleteLove your painting, the urns and the new look. So pretty! I have been working on my mantel (because of one of your earlier posts). I need to finish it. Hummm. I have some urns in white in garage. I'll bet there's some ASCP on yours. Can't wait to see what I need to do to my urns--thanks for paving the way!!
ReplyDeleteI saw several sets of atlers at a flea market yesterday and thought of you!

I have been desparately trying to re-do my mantel and have been having fits. I think because of the cathedral ceilings, I'm not having accessories high enough. This gave me some ideas. Thanks for sharing. The mantel looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI love the urns aand the picture over the mantel. The mantel itself is pretty!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDelete- The Tablescaper
Looks great other than I would remove the small topiary. For some reason, I'm just not digging it.

Thanks everyone and that is not a PB topiary. It is a preserved boxwood topiary that I have had for years and it has moved all over the house.

ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful Kim! I love that book and Charles.
ReplyDeleteOh I love that painting too. It's so 'Charles Faudree'.
ReplyDeleteI love the rich colors and the 'feel' it brings to your room. I know you must be thrilled with it.
I'm a fan of Mr. Foudree's style too, Kim, especially his use of animal prints. It's very British Colonial, especially his use of animal prints. Your mantel makeover is lovely! You have a knack for pulling items together and letting them complement the space and each other.
ReplyDeleteLove the urns - and you were so original in your use of fillers. They turned out great. That new print is fabulous too! I'd love it if you'd share this at my Spring Mantel Party, going on now @ the Delectable Home.
