Yes, I took out the red checked drapes and replaced them with these burlap panels from Ballard's. The red checked drapes have been hanging here for several years and even though I love them I am just ready to tone it down in the breakfast room and kitchen.
It took me a few days to get use to the new look, but now I love this change. I think I just want a more grown up feel in here instead of the cutesy look. Does that make sense?
I like that these panels are lined. The other ones were not. I can see the backs through the sun room window.
Just the right amount of puddling.
Here is the view from the great room taken while cloudy out and chandy on.
Shot on a sunny morning.
Here is a close up of the shades I have on the chandelier now. These are the ones that came with the chandelier in the sitting room that I took off. I love the shape of these and the fit this chandy well.
My vintage grain sack that I bought last weekend is being used as a runner.
Love the simplicity of lavender stuck in a white pitcher.

This really does flow better with the adjoining rooms since the floor plan is open.
Okay, so what do you think? Tell the truth. I can handle it.
Regular price of the panels are $75 each. My price was $33 each. Two were less than the original price for one.
Another good deal.

Kim I love the new look and always loved those panels from Ballards. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love these panels. They look great in this room, especially with the grain sack runner and lavender and distressed table. Gorgeous room, as always.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the change! The whole look is just perfect!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you showed those panels. I have looked at those and the plain (without fringe) ones for two bedrooms in our home. I've also been looking at those smoked burlap panels shown on Thistlewood Farm! Did yours have any odor after hanging? I have heard some say theirs smelled - some not a lingering odor but some were. I like them in your breakfast room!
ReplyDeletetina
I love them, Kim, and you can always bring the other ones back out for the winter months for a "warmer" look. Love the shades, too. This area has a simple, calm look to it, which I like. I think that's what has drawn me to the lighter colors in my home.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so nice, and we need a change from time to time. I do think our style evolves with time. You crack me up the that chandy's shades. They are always changing. Your runner is fab with the pitcher of lavender. Beautiful setting:)
ReplyDeleteKim those look great! Which store did you find those at? I may send my mother in law to get me some for our living room. I always have seen them in the catalog and was not sure about the fringe but now that I see yours I think they would work. Hope u have a great Monday!
ReplyDeleteTina, yes, they did have a strong burlap smell for a while, but I don't notice it anymore.
ReplyDeletethanks
Hi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI really like your burlap drapery panels. They are perfect for your breakfast room. Easy way to change things up to get a whole new look.
Mary Alice
I love the change Kim! The burlap is wonderful. I am trying to move away from color in our dining room. More about that later.LOL
ReplyDeleteI love the new look. Those panels look great in there. So very pretty.
ReplyDeleteKim, your new panels look beautiful in the room! They are just perfect for that space! Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteThey look great Kim. It looks fresh...
ReplyDeleteLove the new look. The new panels actually make your room look larger to me. Love how the burlap pulls out the color of the hay in the artwork.
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to change things up.
ReplyDeleteLove the new look.
Looks so different Kim! Totally different. I like the French relaxed feeling you have going on. Nice thing is that the burlap is so neutral you can put just about anything with it. Great deal on the panels too.
ReplyDeleteIt is SHOCKING that YOU are changing something around!! LOL It looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Lorraine
Kim, are you seriously asking as if someone is going to think anything you've done is not great? I don't think you've made a mistake yet, girl. LOVE the drapes and the toned down look. I did the same in my dining room with similar fabric window treatments.
ReplyDeleteLove the change. Those drapes are gorgeous. Now I think the table would look great sporting a frenchy blue color. Just a thought
ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY LOVE the burlap curtains. They look wonderful in there. Also LOVE the grain sack with the white pitcher full of lavender. LOVE LOVE!!
ReplyDeleteSheila, blue wouldn't work well with the adjoining great room that is full of red and green. I do love blue and have it in many rooms.
ReplyDeletethanks
I think it is always fun to try new things in our home, but I am being honest, I loved the checks, they made me smile!Of course I am a striped and check loving gal so naturally I would say that. I just liked the way they looked with your yellow table. The main thing is that you love them! You sure got an amazing deal especially for lined panels! Enjoy your new look,
ReplyDeleteKathysue
I like the change. You got a good deal on those drapes. I'm not sure you could've made them yourself for that much.
ReplyDeletepuddle wonderful-e.e. cummings
ReplyDeleteLove it! It looks casual and elegant at the same time!
ReplyDelete-Shelley
I love these curtains! I also love the shades you put on the light fixture. Your new picture looks great with the new curtains...they somehow seem to compliment eachother.
ReplyDeletePlease come decorate my home! I love it all Kim!
ReplyDeleteThose are great curtains!!!!
Yvonne
I am being completely honest here Kim. I really love it. I loved, loved, loved the red/white ones and didn't think anything could top those, but these are awesome. The room looks very refined now. Love the simplicity of it.
ReplyDeleteGreat job and great find!
xoxo,
Kim
I am liking the toned down look a lot! I do think they others were vibrant and cute but this is more of a grown up look. And, guess what? If you get tired of it you can always change them out again...not that YOU would ever do THAT!;>) Have a great Monday, Kim. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteLove the new drapes! Great deal and the new picture looks great in there as well. Overall, I love it all. The shades are perfect and I heart your chandelier.
ReplyDeleteGretchen
I love the new look. It really works with the new art and the new stools you have. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI think these look great, Kim! I know what you mean about getting away from the cutesy look ~ I tend to gravitate towards that sometimes and I am trying to be a little more "grown up" in my taste. Your entire breakfast room looks really well put together ~ very, very nice!!
ReplyDeleteAs usual--great change! I do love the other curtains and you can always change back from time to time--but these are such a soft and pretty look...
ReplyDeleteI love them.... but if/when you decide to change them out, I will buy them from you! They would look so good in my dining room to match the burlap fringe runner I just made :)
ReplyDeleteYou are going to hate me for this. . . "Zzzzzz'". I know! Everybody else loved it and you know I am not the decorator. But still, "zzzzzz".
ReplyDeleteKim, I just changed out my red drapes in my great room to khaki weavers cloth panels from Country Curtains. It took a while for me to get used to no color, but I'm loving them now. I looked at these panels in BALLARDS and considered them but I have 4 windows in my great room, so I had to re-group. THey look lovely in your breakfast area.
ReplyDeleteThose panels look like they were made for your room & I love the shades on the chandy!
ReplyDeletevery pretty.......If you are interested in selling the other pannels....I have a dining room window that they would look fabulous on!!!!!!!

Hi Kimmie! Your new panels look wonderful and your room really seems to be larger. I guess I'm on the cutesy side - I loved those red and white ones too! ;)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia :)
I am so obsessed with burlap and have been for a few years now. I love the curtains and the relaxed feel of the whole room. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI LOOOOVE those panels, Kim! They would be great in our new house! How did you get the discount? I totally understand about a room being more "grown up", I feel like my design look is growing up too:) XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the honest opinions. They will not be changed back to the red and white. I will either use them else where or I have already promised to sell them to someone if I decide not to keep them.
ReplyDeleteI love the panels and you got a great deal on them! Blessings, Tammy
ReplyDeleteLove your breakfast room, Kim! The panels look great! What an awesome deal you got!
ReplyDeleteLove these curtains! They look so nice in your dining room!
ReplyDeleteKim, your burlap panels look great!
ReplyDeleteI definitely like it better. Yes, grown -up vs. cutesy makes perfect sense. I love the transom over your window.
ReplyDeleteKim, while I LOVED your cute checkered curtains, I am loving the toned down look even better. It's easier on the eye. I keep waiting because I know you are going to "eventually" paint your dining room chairs. I just know it. :) ♥
ReplyDelete~ Lisa ~
Love the new look, Kim! I have the matching table cover from Ballards. Hugs, Sherry
ReplyDeleteI am toning things down in my house, too, so I like your changes. Love the new painting, but I do miss the cows - 'cause I love things with French writing. Linda
ReplyDeleteI love it, Kim!!!
ReplyDeleteI am loving burlap lately... I had never seen it in curtains, though! I loved the little "fringe" as a detail... It looks great in your breakfast room!
Cheers,
I like those panels. You gotta shake it up once in a while (OK, every day for you)! The price was right, too.
ReplyDeleteGreat deal on the panels and I think they look perfect. You couldn't make them for that price. I wish now I had made my panels in my dining room puddle a bit. Oh well...Your room looks stunning and very grown up. :o)

ReplyDeleteI loved the checks and the cows! But of course I do love these burlap drapes too. Change is good, I love to mix things up.
ReplyDeleteThe burlap panels are gorgeous and I love the look. The whole area is beautiful, but I think because I liked the cow canvas' so much hanging above the beadboard, the painting is kinda throwing it off for me. Don't know why...maybe the size? maybe the height it's hung above the gorgeous beadboard? maybe the color? Or maybe none of the above...it's probably just because I thought the cow canvas' looked so good hanging above the beadboard. But like I mentioned before, that are is very pretty and I wouldn't change a thing. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home and your talent..I always enjoy coming by your blog for lots of inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim...
ReplyDeleteOhhh my...I love your dining room's new look, my friend! The new drapes are beautiful and the new chandy shade couldn't be any more perfect with the drapes! I missed seeing your new painting...it's lovely! I think your dining room has a wonderful french country "farmhouse" feel now! Beautiful!!! Thanks for sharing your gorgeous home with us...you always inspire me, my friend!
Warmest spring wishes,
Chari
Great price! I would have them lined, I just prefer that look.
ReplyDeleteKim, I've been debating on whether to get these panels (or similar ones) from the Ballard's catalog...but now that I know they are at the outlet....did they have more? I WILL venture to the outlet store soon!!! And your shades without the red on them definitely look better!! :)
ReplyDeleteBethanie, I got these over a week ago and they had an extra percentage off off all the textiles that week. Not sure if that sale is still going on textiles this week. They have tons of stuff at the Holcomb Bridge store.
ReplyDeleteYour room looked lovely before. But I love this look just as much! I love earth tones in decorating. I think it makes it feel so cozy.
ReplyDeleteYour panels look fabulous!! I love your breakfast room.
ReplyDeleteKathy
I DO love this toned down and more neutral earthy look. very French country. Your window is gorgeous, I hadn't noticed the leaded glass before. really pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love this great room, so beautiful! Your new look Kim is lovely with the new panels. Have a nice week.

ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI love these burlap panels and I had thought about ordering them at one time and then decided on toile.
I think they look perfect in your eating area. Love the table top too.
hugs
Sissie
Beautiful, I love the neutral tone of it all too. So warm and fresh. The lavender in the pitcher is the crowing touch to your lovely breakfast room. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteUnbelievably perfect! I am crushing on those panels BIG TIME now!!! I always feel inspired when I visit!!!
ReplyDeleteXO, Aimee
Was this post about curtains? I'm still looking at the chandie! :) Seriously though, I like a more subdued, simple look for curtains. Burlap is a good choice.
ReplyDeleteYour home is lovely! Love all you create, great job with the curtains! Thanks for sharing your ideas.
ReplyDeleteI really like it. Very relaxed, and yet elegant....
ReplyDeleteYour floors are beautiful by the way...and the burlap drapes are much prettier than their catalogue!

Such a gorgeous room and I love the new shades on the chandy. The drapes look great also. Thanks tons for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI love the new drapes. I can see wanting a plainer background so the art and flowers and food shine.
ReplyDeleteI think it makes total sense to want a "grown up" look. I've been craving that relaxed french feel too. I love your breakfast room and the transition from the great room provides a really pretty view.

Kim, this is just BEAUTIFUL! I really love this look, and do understand the feeling you are going for...I am in the same frame of mind. I love everything about it!

I love the new look. More sophisticated than the checks which are somewhat cottagey. It is such a lovely room with a calm feel to it. Great change! x Sharon

Have a awsome week.
LOVE Maria at inredningsvis
I love cleareance stores and you are so lucky to have that one. The look is great.
ReplyDeleteI love them!!!! I am doing the same sort of thing in my home, the switch from bolder more cutsie to a more neutral sophisticated french country look so I know exactly what you are doing! We think alike, if I had a blog you would see our homes are decorated alike in so many ways!
ReplyDeleteThe burlap panels are a keeper! Enjoy!
Kim, I love your new look too. A softer look is always pleasing I think. I went with the bold look in my eating area too and as much as I love the fabric the pattern ruffles my feathers some daysI I probably should have gone for a solid. I did love those red checked in your eating nook, a look that would work for me too. Stash then away, you'll regret it if you don't keep them.

The French Hutch
Your new drapes go perfectly with the new picture. And I love me some lavender! Your breakfast room is lovely- if I could just pick the whole thing up and move it to my house, I would do it- well, I'd have to wait til you were shuffling things around in another room.... ;)
ReplyDeleteLove burlap drapes. I miss Ballard's Backroom on Defoors! Looks great, Kim.
ReplyDeleteThese look great, Kim. I couldn't imagine taking the others down but now that I see, I like these MUCH better. Great price, too.
ReplyDeleteEverything about this room is perfect, Kim! The color and texture of the new drapes, the shape and color of the chandelier shades, the new painting.... it's warm and homey but also sophisticated at the same time. And with this new palate you can put pretty much any colors on that table! Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI get it Kim...I'm toning down my house too. I have always decorated with a lot of color, and always got compliments on it, but I'm ready for a change too. I am going for more of the cream on white on tone on tone...as they say ! Your changes are lovely.
ReplyDeleteKim, Well, it's why we love your blog so much ... decorating changes and evolves over time. Love and enjoy what's happening! Anne
ReplyDeleteWow! got what your note mean.
ReplyDeleteI love the changes. Perfectly fit.
I played cool on my selection of colors but white is always the base. It is easy to blend colors.
Happy to visit again.
