She dug all that in less than five minutes. Go girl go! No gas needed. Just some food, water and snacks now and then.
She would dig and rest and then start all over again. Look at the dirt on her tongue.
She would dig and stick her snout in the hole. Not sure what she thought she was digging up.
Yes, Bailey you are getting quite filthy, but you sure are having fun.
She really doesn't like the heat and it was very hot the day she did this. So she was trying to cool off with her hind end in the shade and lying on the cool dirt. She really tore the ground up very quickly with little breaks in between.
You can see our first garden box here and she was digging right where another one will go.
We have one box and the area in front of it does not have a box around it yet, but will have one added. Then we will add one where Bailey was digging to the right of this box and then in front of that we want to plant silver queen corn. Our grass has basically all died in the last year so we might as well have a garden.
I will share more pictures of the garden and what is planted soon.
Miss Bailey you need a bath!
Have a super weekend and Mother's Day!
I'm glad we don't have the only digger dog. Izzy seems to have stopped digging under the fence and doing her escape routine. What is it with dogs and dirt anyway? LOL
ReplyDeleteLOL!! I love those photos of Bailey!! She is so darn cute!! I know you're going to love having fresh veggies from your very own garden. You AND Kelly! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteOur Westie isn't a digger. When he gets hot he goes under our deck.
ReplyDeleteYep, I just don't get it! There nose/snout must work differently than ours. They just have that unbridled fun that only pets and kids can have. I wonder if Bailey hears something, I always like to think they are trying to unearth one of his many buried treats. I love your raised bed. Have a great weekend. Kathy
ReplyDeleteLOL, how cute, Kim. Have a wonderful Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteSo adorable! Bet Bailey had a nice bath after all that fun in the dirt! Have a happy Mother's Day weekend with your family!
ReplyDeleteDoreen
Hopefully, she'll only dig around the outer part of the garden and not IN the garden. Ha! Your garden looks wonderful. It's really big! Your plants are getting very large (much larger than ours)too. What are the metal posts on each side of the box for?
ReplyDeleteKim, she is so cute and I laughed when I saw the picture of her with dirt on her tongue. She is precious.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day and enjoy having your children with you this weekend.
Good girl Bailey, helping mom and dad out like that! We are getting ready to put in some raised garden beds too...I can't wait for those fresh organic veggies. I think Miss Bailey is hoping for a few of those too!
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day!
Kat
Great job on the raised bed Kim! Looks like you will have veggies before you know it. I'm using the book "The Self Sufficient Gardener" which helps me tremendously. We've already started harvesting some of our cool season crops and I can't wait for the summer veggies. Bailey is a cutie! Hope you have a happy Mothers Day!
ReplyDeleteBailey is the best tiller! I am really missing my raised beds, right about now....yours look great!
ReplyDeleteI have a digger too!
ReplyDeleteDrives me crazy when I find a big hole in the yard!
Bailey is a doll.
:)
Bailey is so cute...wish I could get my dogs to work lol!
ReplyDeleteWhat precious photos!
ReplyDeleteNow if you could only get her to plant!
ReplyDeleteNancy
One of our Yorkies was a digger when he was little but has since outgrown that phase. Your garden is looking good too! Have a great weekend :o) Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDelete~Des
LOL.. now that's a diggity dog!... she's got a nice summer cut, by the way. I wish we had your temps!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the garden, I look forward to see how you grow!
I love the dirt on Bailey's tongue. lol Fritz (our dog) will do the same thing. Dig to get cool dirt then lay in it. He has one spot at then end of my peony bushes. Thankfully that is his spot and doesn't dig up else where. I love your garden. We're hoping to get things planted here soon. I was hoping this weekend but there is another frost warning up for tonight. So maybe another week...soon. Have a wonderful Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteCute! Have a great Mother's day and weekend!
ReplyDeleteNancy
I love her dirty little tongue!!!
ReplyDeleteYou will LOVE your new garden boxes!
What are you growning?
Enjoy your company!
I hope you have a fabulous weekend and a wonderful Mother's Day celebration!
ReplyDeleteBailey is so cute!
Elizabeth
Can she dig in a straight line? If so, you might be able to hire her out!!!
ReplyDeleteShe's just the cutest little thing!
ReplyDeleteThis is about the cutest post I've ever seen! I love a surprise doggie in a post every now and then, and I know I can count on one from you.. Bailey is seriously adorable. What a hard worker..
ReplyDeleteComplete crack-up!

Who needs P. Allen Smith when you have Bailey :)
ReplyDeleteYou are going to have a great salad summer!
blessings,
karianne
Bailey is so darned cute. I love how they go at something with a vengeance and then tire themselves out. She is a pretty good digger for a little dog.
ReplyDeleteMy brother had a dog and that was it's name...Diggerdog...all one word...and he lived up to his name! xo Diana
What cute pictures of that sweet baby!
ReplyDeleteNote to self: my dog needs a bath ( too).
We never had a dog who would garden - wow. Exactly what I need! Our dogs just wanted to play baseball with us!! Cute post!
ReplyDeleteYour garden is going to be wonderful and with Baileys help, deep enough too. What are you doing about deer? I have not planted veggies here because of deer.
ReplyDeleteI won't show these pics to Bentley ~ I have enough trouble trying to keep him from snatching my weed puller and trowel when I am working out in the garden. Bailey sure is cute and determined like a typical terrier. Have a very happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Susan and Bentley
Bailey is so adorable, her touch is covered in dirt just like you said!! I love that. We used to have a Westie, and I think all of the terriers were originally bred to go after rats and mice, so I am guessing that is why they love to dig. Our collie doesn't dig at all, and has no interest in chasing balls, but she loves nothing better than to herd us.
ReplyDeleteHi, found your blog in a round about way. Baily is adorable. I think she's digging voles (sort of like moles). This is exactly what our dog does when digging for those little creatures. He'll dig awhile, then stick his snout in the hole he's dug and continue this until he's lost scent of the vole or until he's found it and brings it to us. If you do have voles, it would be great if Baily found them. They can damage your garden since they love to eat tender roots.
ReplyDeleteI always love seeing what Bailey is up to!:) Hope you have a wonderful Mothers Day Kim!
ReplyDeleteKim . . . love the "Bailey Built"!! Neat to see pictures of your gardens. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYes, adorable Bailey is a terrier. The name comes from terra (Latin for earth) and they were bred to dig and hunt critters. Most of them love to dig.
ReplyDeleteShe is a lot cuter than a Troy Built.
WONDERFUL Post.thanks for share..very cute,,
ReplyDeletetoko busana muslim
Love your little helper...tilling up the dirt with his nose!! You are one industrious lady...
ReplyDeleteLove the sneak peek of your raised bed garden...I am assuming you do not have any problems with deer...
Have a wonderful weekend!
Have a great Mother's day , enjoy the kids.
ReplyDeleteFunny. My dogs do the same thing. I put them outside for just a minute and before I know it they're digging a hole to China!
ReplyDeleteim a reader of ur blog and rarely to never comment HOWEVER,this is the funniest cutest post i read it early saturday mornin and it was just what i needed to get my day goin and out of the blues,im still laughing out loud THANK YOU!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf she also plants and can dig in a trench I think I will rent her from you.
ReplyDelete~Bliss~
That is hilarious. He is having a blast :)
ReplyDeleteHow funny! When I was a kid we had a little toy poodle, and we fed her Mighty Dog dog food. I don't think they make it any more, but if they did, Bailey could be the new face of Mighty Dog!!
ReplyDeleteYour garden boxes look great! I'm sure your plants will reward you with a bounty, for all of your hard work and care!
Have a great weekend! Don't work too hard, and enjoy your Mother's Day!
xo-Lisa
I have a 100 lb lab that does the same thing ! He could make quite a dent in your garden ! I think they are trying to cool down - must be some instinct thing.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mothers Day ! Take a day off and have a cold iced tea !
That is waaay too cute, Kim. Bailey is so adorable....and dirty. :))
ReplyDeleteI have garden envy now !!
O, and I tried to come here several times today but never could get your page to pull up...something about needing more space or something...
After the digging, you need to get her to plant!
ReplyDeleteDid you know that Yorkie's were bred as rat catchers so she is probably digging to catch a rat (well and imaginary one anyway). I bet she was a tired, dirty, happy dog that evening.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! I love your blog, and I just had to comment on your cute dog! When I was growing up we had a terrier mix that did *exactly* the same thing -- right down to the dirt on the tongue! I didn't get it when I was a kid, but my husband has told me (since we regaled him with stories of our family dog) that it's part of the breed, like others have said. It was nice to read that post -- it brought back memories of my sweet dog!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute!
~Angela~
