Guestroom Reveal

7.23.2012

Well, I think the guestroom is done. Yep, stick a fork in it, done. Oh, wait a minute am I ever done? Maybe for a while. What started the changes in here was wanting to change the color of the armoire to red and to use the red checked curtains that use to be in the breakfast room. Then the  domino effect took place. Warning there are lots of pictures like I usually do. I have one reader who thinks I show too many pics because I want to make sure you get all the details. Well, yes, that would be so. I love blogs with lots of pretty pics myself. Besides painting the armoire and bed you will notice that I removed the nightstand and moved the trunk from the other side of the bed. Then the side the trunk was formerly on has been replaced with my grey round table that use to be in the sun room. Did you get all that? Good.

You can see the way the room looked last time I showed it here.

I had to hem the red checked curtains. They were way too long. I don't really sew. I have a sewing machine, but it doesn't like me and the thread comes out all the time so I used Stitch Witch hem tape.

This was in our utility room not being used.

The steamer trunk was purchased in the seventies for $55. Most I see these days are so pricey.

I love having the trunk be easily seen now.

New striped pillowcases from the Land of Nod. It is actually a children's bedroom site, but these work perfectly in this room. I love finding things on children's sites.

I had this navy blue lamp in storage and decided to use it in here on the round table that was in the sun room.

For those who have not seen this before this was Mr. Savvy's Navy shirt that we framed.

Vintage suitcases found thrifting while out of town sit atop the newly painted armoire. The top one is navy blue.

Vintage wool swimsuit purchased a couple of years ago on ebay and then I framed it. One of these days I need to get non glare glass.

Pottery Barn vintage red ticking linen bed skirt purchased from ebay.

Here is the new light fixture that replaced the boob light that I posted about here.
Did you guess the guestroom?

I already had all the accessories and just switched things around.
Now with the bed painted white the room is so much brighter feeling. If I ever want to remove the nautical items I can just change up the accessories and bedding and have a cottage look. hmmmm.

Have a super week!

  81. The trunk was made nearby in Indy! The trunk company was in existence in the 1900's. Carson's is located on the spot now, it's part of Circle Centre Mall. They have a similar trunk at the State Museum. A great (in my book anyways) addition to your nautical room!

    ReplyDelete

  89. Kim,

I laughed out loud at your sewing machine comment...mine hates me too. I have to wait until my mom visits to get anything sewn.

I LOVE your new room! It looks fabulous! The red armoire looks so beautiful! I have one to paint myself but I will have to do it in the room as it weighs a ton. Did you have a problem painting yours in the room?

On another note...your new ironstone collection looks so great! I too love those pitchers, sadly I do not have a display area so I cannot purchase too many.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful room. I would love to be a guest there and partake of all of your garden vegetables.

    Have a great week, Elizabeth

  95. Wow! Just fabulous! I love the red armoire...I used to know a decorator in my town that would say "the life is in the blood". She meant it spiritually but she also thought that each room needed some red to give it life. So many great decorative items in this room too. Thanks for sharing it with us.

  108. It looks great! Love the changes. I recently bought a box of vintage baby/children's clothing and there is a blue and red striped child's romper in there that's as cute as it can be. Every time I look at it it reminds me of this guest bedroom, and I think, "This would look so cute in Kim's guest bedroom." : )

  109. This has always been one of my FAVORITE rooms! I love the NEW touches! I can't even imagine you taking down the nautical things...they are timeless and one of a kind finds that make the space incredible. But, it is nice to have a space where the accessories can be easily changed out for a new look..I am first on the list if you ever decide to sell the sailor jacket or vintage swim suit! Lovin' the painted bed, the pillow cases, the little pillow in the chair and the suitcases...perfect. Christie at Three Pixie Lane

This post is speaking to me loud and clear! I am in the midst of re-doing the hubs old, unused office and turning it into a guest room...today starts with painting...
Your guest room turned out perfect, honestly it looks like it could be in a magazine it turned out so well! Also I love how you "up-cycled" from other rooms in the house to pull this all together, that's a must for our guest room too just simply because I have so much "stuff" to re-use!
Oh and uh..."too many pictures"...I don't think so, a blogger can never have "too many pictures"...what's up with that :o)

  140. Looks great. My first thought was that your guests wouldn't be able to sleep with all that red in the room...but after looking at all your lovely detailed pix...I think it looks totally serene and inviting.

  144. Hi, this is a late entry but I saw the re-do on your favorite posts. Love all that you did from the light fixture to the pillows. Painting the armoire was definately the right thing to do, have you done anything inside the armoire? A friend used replaceable panels to back the cabinets & doors on a piece, looks great and is changeable.
