Well, I think the guestroom is done. Yep, stick a fork in it, done. Oh, wait a minute am I ever done? Maybe for a while. What started the changes in here was wanting to change the color of the armoire to red and to use the red checked curtains that use to be in the breakfast room. Then the domino effect took place. Warning there are lots of pictures like I usually do. I have one reader who thinks I show too many pics because I want to make sure you get all the details. Well, yes, that would be so. I love blogs with lots of pretty pics myself. Besides painting the armoire and bed you will notice that I removed the nightstand and moved the trunk from the other side of the bed. Then the side the trunk was formerly on has been replaced with my grey round table that use to be in the sun room. Did you get all that? Good.
You can see the way the room looked last time I showed it here.
I had to hem the red checked curtains. They were way too long. I don't really sew. I have a sewing machine, but it doesn't like me and the thread comes out all the time so I used Stitch Witch hem tape.
This was in our utility room not being used.
The steamer trunk was purchased in the seventies for $55. Most I see these days are so pricey.
I love having the trunk be easily seen now.
New striped pillowcases from the Land of Nod. It is actually a children's bedroom site, but these work perfectly in this room. I love finding things on children's sites.
I had this navy blue lamp in storage and decided to use it in here on the round table that was in the sun room.
For those who have not seen this before this was Mr. Savvy's Navy shirt that we framed.
Vintage suitcases found thrifting while out of town sit atop the newly painted armoire. The top one is navy blue.
Vintage wool swimsuit purchased a couple of years ago on ebay and then I framed it. One of these days I need to get non glare glass.
Pottery Barn vintage red ticking linen bed skirt purchased from ebay.
Here is the new light fixture that replaced the boob light that I posted about here.
Did you guess the guestroom?
I already had all the accessories and just switched things around.
Now with the bed painted white the room is so much brighter feeling. If I ever want to remove the nautical items I can just change up the accessories and bedding and have a cottage look. hmmmm.
Have a super week!
Have a super week!

ReplyDeleteThe room looks beautiful Kim. I love the red armoire with the checked curtains. I also love the fact that you used stitch witch. I don't sew either, so I like to see that you can get away without doing it and still have everything look great! Love the room!

ReplyDeleteYou could add cabbage roses to all those beautiful stripes and that would be amazing.
ReplyDeleteJust fabulous! every detail !
ReplyDeleteSince I love red, white & blue, this room redo is right up my alley. I just received my first Land of Nod catalog I requested to "borrow" ideas for the grandkids, but never even thought of using any of their fun stuff for adult rooms. Your guest room has a fresh new look!
ReplyDeleteI agree lots of picture is best. Why else do we all check out blogs. I simply love the new look. The bed really looks nice with its new paint job. I noticed the buffalo check curtains from your other room. Sounds like you can reuse them again with your hemming method. I think the space is just perfect now. Beautiful:)
ReplyDeleteIt turned out great, Kim. Very coastal looking. I love that you were able to reuse your red check drapes in here. The armoire looks great. The whole room really came together nicely.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it! Of course, Mr. Savvy's navy shirt is my favorite piece :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the change sin your guest room Kim!So many great details!
ReplyDeleteKim...I LOVE IT!!! OMGosh how sweet is your guest room! Such crisp and clean lines. I have to admit my favorite item is that adorable pillow with the black labby in the red boat. It just stole my heart! So ahhh...when are you expecting me???:D
ReplyDeleteIt looks fresh and inviting.... so if you're looking for a Canadian 'guest' to stay in that room, keep me in mind!
ReplyDeleteLove the curtains and the bedskirt best of all!

ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Hi,Kim!
ReplyDeleteI loved the painted bed! I remember the nautical details from last time!Loved the red armoire!
I know, we are never done!!!
Kim, that looks awesome! I love that you have Mr. Savvy's navy shirt framed. That makes it more special. The room looks better than ever! You are so fearless!
ReplyDeleteI love it all, such a comfortable and inviting room. Love all the nautical touches with the reds, blues and spot of yellow. Well done!
ReplyDeleteKim, this all looks fresh and inviting. I like the new look! All you need now are a few Nantucket Lightship Baskets. LOL Seriously, plan that trip to Nantucket in the fall. Lots of fun, nautical accessories in shops on the island. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteI've always loved this room, and love it even more now =)
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, Kim. Love the punches of red in the room. It would be a great guest room to spend some time in. Love it. I can't believe someone told you that you had too many pictures on your blog....helllooooo....xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI love how this room turned out with your changes! The new red color in there is so pretty and moving the trunk to the other side of the bed and the grey round table in the corner was a smart idea. It is so cute with the red checked drapes and the newly painted white bed. I didn't think you could improve on what you had before, but you did!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful room Kim! I think you did an amazing job and that vintage swimsuit is the perfect touch! Love how you framed it! Angie xo
ReplyDeleteI like it!...but I know it won't stay like this for long! (I've been following you long enough to know that!)
ReplyDeleteI am in love with this room Kim, what a great style you put together, it looks gorgeous and awesome, each and every detail is perfect.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful room Kim and I especially love the red and white ticking bedskirt. You should give yourself a hand on a room "well done"!
ReplyDeleteYour guest room is wonderful. I love the striped pillowcases. I could kick myself for getting rid an identical steamer trunk when we downsized to our little cottage. I hope you have some guests soon to stay in your lovely room.
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteYou continue to inspire the blog world with your beautiful makeovers. Stay true to your inner decorating goddess! And no you can never have too many pictures.
Karen
Just love this room!! When can I book in for a few nights???
ReplyDeleteSuzyq
I thought the room looked great before you started painting, etc., but it looks even better now! I really like all the "lightening" of the furniture, the trunk, and the navy lamp (shape) from storage. Well done, Kim! Linda
ReplyDeleteRed armore is perfect. Great updates.
ReplyDeleteWow! You are such a brave soul for painting the bed! It looks fabulous (as does all your painted pieces). Everything looks great in this room!
ReplyDeleteToo many pictures?? NEVER
Gorgeous! I love the combination of blue and red, stripes and plaids. Also, the light fixture is great!
ReplyDeleteThought I would let you know that you have a political ad running in the space above your header that is pretty negative. Not sure you want political ads like that on your page. Just thought I would give you a heads up!
ReplyDeleteLove how it turned out, Kim! The bed looks fabulous painted ... love the trunk turned bedside table. And, the armoire looks amazing painted red! Your guests will be making reservations, soon! I'm almost done with Jax's playroom, which I did in a nautical theme with lots of primary colors ... fun colors to work with!
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous, Kim, and I love seeing all of the details in your photos.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, Kim. I love that bedskirt. Well, really I love it all.♥
ReplyDeleteWell, I loved this room so much before, I was worried I would be kind of sad you changed it... but, it is wonderful!!! As always!! ;) Love that the trunk is more visable, too. And, the new light fixture is great in this room. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteLove the room. It turned out great. Like that you also used authentic items (like the navy shirt) that have some meaning. I always tell people to pull all those "special" things out of the boxes in the basement and display them, otherwise why are you keeping them! Again, looks great.
ReplyDeleteIf this rooom gets any cuter, I am going to throw a hissy fit. I LOVE it the way it is, just precious. I remember when u framed the shirt ....so cute and I know Mr. Savvy loves it showcased. You always do such an amazing job of decorating.
ReplyDeletexo
I L-O-V-E the entire room! Perfect!!
ReplyDeleteYour quest room looks wonderful Kim. I will be coming down to visit this afternoon :-)
ReplyDeleteperfection in every little cranny
ReplyDeletelooks great, Kim - per usual!
ReplyDelete-Trish
lovely....I need you to redo my home LOL
ReplyDeleteI really like the cabinet piece painted red and not too heavily distressed. It's a good combination with the bed painted white . I love the trunk as a bedside table. You have such a good eye with the way you use fabrics! It all just looks great!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your guest room...have always lusted after that fantastic old bathing suit....the trunk is perfect, and for that matter the entire room...just perfection Kim!...and yes, we all know that you are "never done" :)
ReplyDeleteThe accessories you picked for this room are what sets it apart from typical waterside decorating. Excellent, and my fav is still the Navy uniform.
ReplyDelete~Bliss~
I love that you put your red buffalo check panels in this room. What a great touch!
ReplyDeleteIt's fantastic! I love the new look, especially the red armoire.
ReplyDeleteYour guest bedroom is gorgeous! And by the way, you can never have too many pictures- I love to see all the details! :) Oh, and your sewing machine probably just needs some adjustment on the tension if it's breaking threads.
ReplyDeleteI love the Navy Uniform and old wool swimsuit in frames! Very good job!
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely space to welcome your guests! Just love the Americana theme done to perfection ... and fell in love with that little flag waving guy on the round table from the sun room!
:)
Linda
What a beautiful room, Kim. I love seeing lots of photos sharing all the details.
ReplyDeleteThe trunk was made nearby in Indy! The trunk company was in existence in the 1900's. Carson's is located on the spot now, it's part of Circle Centre Mall. They have a similar trunk at the State Museum. A great (in my book anyways) addition to your nautical room!
ReplyDeleteKim....this is amazing! I need to pin and pin and....oh....pin some more! I love the framed vintage bathing suit! What fun!
ReplyDeleteblessings,
karianne
So happy you found a use for those great check curtains, they are so beautiful!!! Another idea is to fold down the top hem before clipping on the curtain rings to make them shorter.....
ReplyDeleteBravo! Sad to hear about your bad relationship issues with your sewing machine! Sounds like an intervention could be helpful! It all looks great!
ReplyDeletewhat a terrific room you created.. I'd say its ready for its Magazine Shoot.
ReplyDeleteI dont k now how you do it but you always know how to make something wonderful even better! Love it all Kim!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more, this room is ready for a photo shoot! Great job, Kim! ~Liz
ReplyDeleteKim it is truly amazing. I love the pops of red. And the fact that it has real (not store bought) character! Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteStacy
Kim,
ReplyDeleteI laughed out loud at your sewing machine comment...mine hates me too. I have to wait until my mom visits to get anything sewn.
I LOVE your new room! It looks fabulous! The red armoire looks so beautiful! I have one to paint myself but I will have to do it in the room as it weighs a ton. Did you have a problem painting yours in the room?
On another note...your new ironstone collection looks so great! I too love those pitchers, sadly I do not have a display area so I cannot purchase too many.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful room. I would love to be a guest there and partake of all of your garden vegetables.
Have a great week, Elizabeth
I am in love with this room! I love the curtains, the bedskirt, the everything! Just wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely room, made for dreams.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Elna
Your home is stunning Kim and that includes this guest room!
ReplyDeleteLove your room. I am a huge fan of the color scheme and that you take lots of photos!
ReplyDeleteDone, and done beautifully, Kim. I love it.
ReplyDeleteWow! Just fabulous! I love the red armoire...I used to know a decorator in my town that would say "the life is in the blood". She meant it spiritually but she also thought that each room needed some red to give it life. So many great decorative items in this room too. Thanks for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful space! Love the framed Navy uniform and vintage swimsuit! All the accessories are just perfect for the room! :)
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS. Domino Effect...I totally get you.
ReplyDeleteDon't pay any attention to people who say you post too many pictures...I didn't know that was even possible for those of us that want to see DETAILS! Love the Navy uniform of your husband's--it's is something only you can have and the story is great!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Looks like something from an HGTV show! Wonderfully put together!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great room. I especially love your husband's framed navy shirt and the framed swim suit. They are such unique and special touches.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of this sweet guestroom. The pops of red is very delightful, esp the red checked curtains. The vintage trunk adds to its charm too!
ReplyDeleteSo classic with some whimsy! The guests will love it! I love the Americana color scheme, because it is done in such a way that it is subdued.
ReplyDeleteIt's just beautiful, Kim. When we buy our beach cottage (a girl can dream!) I'm hiring you to decorate.
ReplyDeleteI love how this turned out ... its perfect!
ReplyDeleteFrancine
You did a fabulous job on the nautical guest bedroom. I love your changes AND I love all the pics...there are never enough pics...so you just keep them coming!!
ReplyDeletexoxo-Kathi
Thunderous applause coming from Phoenix!
ReplyDeleteThis is the best r, w & b room I have seen in a long time. Bravo!
I rarely comment on design blogs, but this room was simply too good looking not to. Love it!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! Love the changes. I recently bought a box of vintage baby/children's clothing and there is a blue and red striped child's romper in there that's as cute as it can be. Every time I look at it it reminds me of this guest bedroom, and I think, "This would look so cute in Kim's guest bedroom." : )
ReplyDeleteThis has always been one of my FAVORITE rooms! I love the NEW touches! I can't even imagine you taking down the nautical things...they are timeless and one of a kind finds that make the space incredible. But, it is nice to have a space where the accessories can be easily changed out for a new look..I am first on the list if you ever decide to sell the sailor jacket or vintage swim suit! Lovin' the painted bed, the pillow cases, the little pillow in the chair and the suitcases...perfect. Christie at Three Pixie Lane
ReplyDeleteOh, Kim, it is so hard to keep up with your many changes! I loved how the room looked before, but it's equally as nice now. Love the red armoire!
ReplyDeleteCAS
Oh - that room looks so good and inviting and it really makes me want to be there. I can almost feel it and smell it your pictures are so vivid and detailed. I love this room and I love this make over!
ReplyDeleteWow, Kim. This is wonderful! You did a great job. I really appreciate that you include so many photos--I love seeing all the details! Often it's the details that inspire me even more than the total look. My favorite things in this room are the vintage swimsuit, Mr. Savvy's Navy shirt, and that awesome trunk. Aren't you glad you shelled out the $55 back in the 70's?
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Kim...it looks wonderful!!! I would love to have a guest room that looked so perfectly collected!
ReplyDeleteI really like the way the bed came out, and I love the trunk as a side table!
Magnificent as always!
xo-Lisa

ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI know I've seen this room before and loved it then. I like all the changes that you've made! Love the drapes and the red/white ticking bedskirt. You are so creative, I'm sure that you have an inner seamstress in you, LOL.
XO Cindy
The steamer trunk is my favorite piece next to the framed pieces of clothing. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job, Kim! You really have an eye for great design.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful Kim!! I just adore your guest room- so charming and welcoming!
ReplyDeleteIt looks awesome, Kim! I absolutely adore the red armoire. And the striped pillowcases? To die for! I'm GLAD that you post a lot of pictures. I WANT to get a real sense of the entire space! I guess people like that would be critical of the amount of pics that I post too (and for the same reasons that you do). It's so frustrating to me when people are skimpy with their photos.
ReplyDeleteHow could you possibly have too many pictures?!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog and pics! :)
Gorgeous Kim - every little detail from the great pulley to the framed bathing suit and Mr. Savvy's sailor top to the new light (be gone boob light)! Kelly
ReplyDeleteIt looks fabulous, Kim! I know I have mentioned it before, but my favorite touches are the vintage swimsuit and Mr. Savvy's navy shirt! I love the special touch they add to the room!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteYour guest room looks fantastic!!~
I love all of the pops of red, that's one of my favorite accent colors!!
Beautiful job!
Have a lovely night.
Sincerely,
Melinda
I love how you covered every detail of the room. I have the blue striped duvet and have been wondering what to pair it with so your room is a real inspiration.

ReplyDeleteThis post is speaking to me loud and clear! I am in the midst of re-doing the hubs old, unused office and turning it into a guest room...today starts with painting...
Your guest room turned out perfect, honestly it looks like it could be in a magazine it turned out so well! Also I love how you "up-cycled" from other rooms in the house to pull this all together, that's a must for our guest room too just simply because I have so much "stuff" to re-use!
Oh and uh..."too many pictures"...I don't think so, a blogger can never have "too many pictures"...what's up with that :o)
Terry
It's so gorgeous and relaxing looking! You did a great job.

This is so incredibly awesome I can't even express it. The navy jacket is the perfect piece for above the bed, and the chest nightstand. LOVE! Pinning and sharing on fb I love it so much. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this room! The vintage school house light is one of my favorite features and then mix it with the bed, bedding, and coastal feel....I am sold! Are you taking guest reservations? haha :)
ReplyDeletexoxo
Looks great. My first thought was that your guests wouldn't be able to sleep with all that red in the room...but after looking at all your lovely detailed pix...I think it looks totally serene and inviting.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Absolutely love it!
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss this post??? I absolutely LOVE this room. I have a thing for red gingham...and yours looks just perfect! Love, love, LOVE!! And I think you didn't post ENOUGH photos...so there!!!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteSarahx
HI Kim - I adore your use of color and I'm featuring this today!
ReplyDeleteKelly
Hi, this is a late entry but I saw the re-do on your favorite posts. Love all that you did from the light fixture to the pillows. Painting the armoire was definately the right thing to do, have you done anything inside the armoire? A friend used replaceable panels to back the cabinets & doors on a piece, looks great and is changeable.
ReplyDeleteLove the trunk in the bedroom. I have one just like that. Good idea. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDelete
