What a wonderful collection of weathervanes. When I went to Scott's Antique Market last month there was a vendor selling some vintage weather vanes and I was shocked at how expensive they were. I'm talking over $2,000 and up. He had a cow, a rooster and a horse. Way out of my price range though. I was tickled when I found this collection. This wall is just so much fun.
I love love love this look too. I've been eyeing up some images from Traditional Home for a few years. I was pretty thrilled when I found an old weathervane outside last year when we moved into our new house. Ours is a flying goose. I brought that inside just as fast as I could!
ReplyDeleteKim, I've long wanted a vintage weather vane.They are wonderful bits of folk art. I admire them at antique shops and shows but they are out of my budget too. I could have bought a pig one time on a trip to Wales, but I had no way to get it home. The shop keeper wouldn't ship it. It killed me to walk away from such a bargain. In retrospect, I should have just bought an extra suit case to bring it home. But that was in my early days of travel before I became a savvy travel shopper. LOL

Oh- Yeah. I love those, too. I wish I had the one we had on top of our barn when I was a kid. They are just wonderful old pieces. We bought a copper one of a horse when we visited Maine (similar to the one on the wall) and put it on the garage cupola of the house we lived in at the time. Of course, it stayed with the house....darn it all- xo Diana

ReplyDeleteThese are so pretty! I love them too. I found a horse at the Raleigh flea market that looked just like the green patina one in the picture and was super-excited about it until I asked what the price was and was told $950!! I was a bit shocked...didn't know they were so pricey.
ReplyDeleteThe beautiful antique ones really are pretty but oh so pricey. They do make quite a statement when grouped together like in the picture...and that wainscoting is gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteI've been on the lookout for some type of weathervane to put in one of our garden beds for years, but I want something kind of quirky - and I would be happy with a reproduction, but even those are pricey these days.
Why not print/crop/enlarge/frame this photo and then voila...you have all the weathervanes you could imagine at almost no cost ;)...I think they would look lovely framed in your kitchen...just a thought.

ReplyDeleteThose weathervanes look perfect on that wall..Oh yes, I saw one years ago that would have been perfect over my fireplace mantel...however, the price tag left me speechless!...One can dream though....Have a wonderful day Kim!
ReplyDeleteoh they look amazing, very pricey here as well, I have one from my gramma's farm that I keep but I have no idea where to put, we displayed it at our house on the lake but in the condo its a bit hard to fit in, this does give me ideas though, thanks for sharing,

Before we sold our old home in BC I made my hubby climb up on the shop roof and bring down the old, weathered rooster vane. I have it displayed in the sunroom by the fireplace, and I love it there. I'm always on the hunt for more, but I had no idea they were so pricey!

ReplyDeleteAt those prices I would have to settle for a reproduction as well. I found a great site for weather vanes, probably would not take much to paint them and age them to make them look like the real thing. There were some good deals on the site and some quirky ones Beverly.
